Patience and Perseverance

Along with love it takes a lot of patience and perseverance to keep day old kittens alive.  Sue, one of our expert bottle feeders, has been fostering two kittens, Ollie and Wally, since they were newborns.
Ollie
Wally
These two kittens go every where with Sue whenever she may been away for more than a few hours.  Every week day Sue packs the kittens along with their formula, food, heating pad, and bedding to take them with her to work.   They've also accompanied Sue to various events including the Feline Rescue plant sale last Saturday where Sue was volunteering.
Ollie's and Wally's mom is a feral cat who had been being fed by two Feline Rescue volunteers. On Sunday, April 26, she left them on their porch and did not return for them after a day. Feline Rescue took them in and they have been bottle fed by Sue and are going strong.
More from Sue:Their eyes opened on day 10.  Wally is a few days behind his brother, Ollie, as he was a little sick his first week of life. But he has since grown by leaps and bounds and is doing very well.  This week, they both learned to start grooming themselves.  Ollie is also learning to jump up onto things.  It is great fun to watch them develop into kittens.  Every new milestone is interesting to watch.
Lots of photos in this posting but we had to include every last one.  These two are so cute!

Thank you Sue for caring for Ollie and Wally.
And thanks to Anita for the photos.

Sneak Preview

One of our volunteers, Daisy's foster caregiver, created a purrfectly gorgeous quilt to be raffled off at our Fall Gala.   Proceeds of the raffle will go to Cindy's Fund, a Feline Rescue program which provides financial assistance for qualified emergency medical care.

You can get a sneak preview of the quilt to be raffled off at AnneMarie's Anecdotes, a quilting instructor's blog.

Blended Family

We are amazed each time a momma cat takes in an orphaned kitten and treats the baby as her own.  Our latest blended family is Kanga's family who have embraced our most recent rescued orphaned kitten.  To blend in seamlessly, the new addition to the family has been named Christopher Robin.

"My Skye"

A couple weeks ago Skye went home and we recently received the following update with photos (we always love photos).
Already ten days in and he's settled nicely, both in the house and my heart. He has adjusted much more quickly than I expected, even when getting used to the presence of another cat. They're both on civil terms with each other by now (not even the smallest growl or hiss) and are willing to sleep on the same bed at night only a few feet apart - neither of them wants to give up the comfy spot by a warm, sleeping human.
Skye has claimed a small couch as his own, a place where he likes to nap or just keep an eye on the rest of the lower floor. If someone walks by, human or animal, he hops down to follow and see what we're doing. I knew that he was a sweetheart when I met him in the shelter, and since bringing him home those qualities have only grown stronger. He loves to give face washings and openly asks for affection (especially if his food dish happens to need filling). Many times I've turned around and almost tripped over him, not knowing he had quietly trailed after me. Apparently I still need some training.
I'm so grateful to have this curious, loving cat in my home, and he is just as happy to be here. Thank you again for sharing the special experience that is adopting an animal - and not just any animal, but my Skye.
Sincerely,
Kelsey

Cinderella's kids

Once upon a time in Feline Rescue foster land, there was a sweet and beautiful mama cat named Cinderella. She was very skinny and looked a little raggedy from her tough life, but she was devoted to her kittens: Aladdin and Jasmine, Ariel and Eric, Beauty and Beast. Sadly, Cinderella became ill and died despite all efforts to save her, but I have recently had updates on four of her kittens.
Three of the kittens went to the same home: Beast (now Buster), Ariel (now Lily) and Jasmine. The two girls are still rather petite and their brother is BIG -- he always was the biggest kitten in the litter. They were all sad when their dear family member Hannah the dog passed away of old age, but they are trying to get used to the new full-grown lab mix puppy who has joined the household. They are teaching better manners.

ALADDIN'S ADOPTER WRITES:
Aladdin is sitting on my lap as I type this. He has gotten really cuddly when he wants to. He is almost 4 now. He loves his big brother that I had when I got him and tolerates his little sister that I got a year later.C

Family created in foster care is together forever

If you don't remember Lucy, Linus and Charlie Brown (or even if you do), check back at their earlier blog posts for some supercute baby pics. They are an extra special family that started with a tiny newborn kitten found at Red Lake Indian reservation during a clinic where he was matched with a mom cat who had been nursing, but her kittens were gone. Then two weeks later, Feline Rescue took is a kitten just 2-3 weeks old and Lucy took him on too. A wonderful family adopted the whole family and we just received a happy update on them. As you can see the kitties are still VERY close ;-)
The kitties are just wonderful! We love them so!

Lucy is her usual sweet self. She does seem to be a tad more playful and kittenish in spurts as the boys are growing up. And she's just so well behaved! Never scratching anything but the scratching posts, waiting patiently to be petted, etc.
She seems to have a particular affinity for Sam, our 8 year old. She seeks him out when he's reading or playing, then just rolls on her back and stretches out so he can rub her tummy. He loves it!
Charlie is now bigger (taller and longer, not bigger around) than Lucy and certainly than Linus. He still has a kittenish feel to his body, though, so it makes me wonder how big he's going to be when he's all done growing. He's such a happy-go-lucky, enthusiastic spaz of a kitty! His nails seem to grow the fastest and he has the biggest affinity for clawing stuff he's not supposed to. We're working on it! Oh - Charlie also has turned out to be the best mouser. He has killed two mice in our house and I'm happy to report that I think he's solved the mouse issue! (He was SOOOO proud of himself!)
Linus still seems to be the most thoughtful. And I think he's really smart. He such a calmly loving guy -- he waits 'til the hubbub dies down, then comes and sits in my lap or lays on my legs if I'm sleeping. He spends quite a bit of time curled up with either Charlie or Lucy and grooming them. Here are some pictures of our crew. By the way, Lucy is indeed getting a little friskier as the boys get a bit older. Fun to watch her play with toys!
Oh -- and Lucy really did that purple boa all by herself (after Charlie found it in the kids' dress up clothes and dragged it up from the basement). Definite photo op!

Do you like kittens???

We have gotten hit hard with abandoned kittens. We desperately need someone to help foster, or a safe place for them to stay temporarily until we can find foster homes.

We have 2 shy kittens about 5-6 months old.

We have a young kitten coming in that was abandoned by a business ,that is very thin, and I was told weighs about 2-3 pounds

We have 2 litters with Mommas. The Moms are shy and need socialization.

We got 2 kittens in yesterday about 4 weeks old.--Jessica will foster them. She is picking them up from the clinic tonight.

We have had many more calls that I have had to refuse!!!!

Surely someone has an extra room or a second bathroom.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Please call Cathy at 651 230-3263. Please pass this information on to your friends and coworkers.

Thanks much!!!

NOTE: Kittens in photos were rescued last summer.

2009 Tree Family

You may remember the Tree Family from 2008.  And if you look closely at the following photo you can see our newest foster kittens, members of the 2009 Tree Family, inside the trunk of a tree.

This year three 4-5 week old babies were found in a tree and bottle fed until momma cat was caught a few days later and reunited with her babies.

Hopefully rescuing kittens from inside trees doesn't become a spring ritual.   Luckily everyone is again safe and sound in foster care.
If you'd like to read more about the rescue, our newest foster volunteer recounted the experience of rescuing this family on her blog, ShinyCake - The Drama of Rescuing Kitties.

Brad & Angie are living under assumed names

Kittens Brad & Angelina have been adopted into a forever home and in order to avoid the paparazzi, they have changed their names to Harry & Greta. Their new family treats them like the stars they are, but they have promised not to reveal their true identity or secret location:Harry and Greta are doing great!!! We love them so much - they fill the house with their crazy antics. They are both so loving, but Harry is so laid back and affectionate, quite the sweetheart. Greta is sweet and loves to be held and cuddled, but is definitely the cautious one. But she warms up to everyone and doesn't stay hidden when we have company. The grandkids love them!I've attached a couple pictures - they have really made themselves at home. Thanks again for the little sweeties!

Sincerely
D.

BTW, Brad & Angie's mom was very pregnant when Feline Rescue got her so her final litter of lovely kittens will be available for adoption in about 10 weeks. Watch for blog posts about Queenie and the Bees! Also, Brad & Angie's older brother Bigby is available for adoption, too, and he's a gentle, loving soul.
