Dora in the land of the giants

My foster kitten, Dora, was adopted by a family with a cat and a Great Dane AND they foster Great Danes. It was a bit of a challenge for a young girl from a home with no dogs but the updates are all good :-)
UPDATE 1:
Here is Dora getting a little braver with my dog Major.  Last night she walked past the other dane and sniffed his paw.  We are keeping the interactions brief and safe as she is very guarded around them and chooses to mostly watch from a safe hideout.  Dora has approached our other cat but so far the other cat prefers to only watch Dora from a distance.  Echo hisses when Dora gets too close and Dora understands to back of

UPDATE 2:
Thanks for checking in on Dora...also called New Kitty.
She and the dogs are doing great!!!!  Actually they get along far better that she does with our other cat.
Unfortunately the other cat still does not seem too happy that New Kitty joined our family but no worries because she gets lots of love, attention and play from the rest of us.

Duke Ellington, Gentleman Cat

I may not be the first cat you notice when you visit Feline Rescue's Adoption Center. At times I'm in deep meditation, pondering the delicious things in life. At other times, I like to mix with the people and charge them a petting toll before they may pass. I keep the humans guessing. I confess, I like to play hard to get. It's all part of my charm. If you want to see my wild side, just bring out a laser pen! I love to chase that red dot for all its worth.

I've been at Feline Rescue for a long time. Why? I have no idea! I have so many fine qualities. I'm laid back and well behaved. I always use the litter box and I have impeccable manners. I'm very polite to other cats. And let me tell you, I've met quite a few! I don't like to fight. I'm a peaceful guy. And best of all, I'm orange!

My sister and I came to Feline Rescue in 2003, after being rescued by volunteers.  Then I was adopted with my sister, Billie Holliday. When our person moved, he didn't take us with.  So we came back to Feline Rescue. Billie Holiday found her 'forever home' but I'm still here, years later.

I've made many good friends in my life at Feline Rescue, both human and feline. But I'd love to have a family and home to call my very own. I'd like a calm home, with other peaceful zen-cats like me, no wee children chasing me. If you're looking for another gentle cat like me, you could adopt my friend Sadey too! She's a fine girl. Share me with your friends if you have no room at the inn. They may be looking for a special orange guy like me!

Isadora and Barishnakov

Isadora and Barishnakov found a home together and are already showing off their purring, playful, loving personalities.

Thought you might be interested in a quick update on these two. I picked them up from the shelter Sunday pm and they've taken over my bathroom for now. Izzy was playing and purring already the first night. Barishnakov (new name TBD) started to let his guard down today (Monday), venturing out from the safety of his bed to play, purr and even crawl into my lap - I was pleasantly surprised!

Thanks for all you do, and know they will be loved and well cared for.

Sophie's and Stuart's First Birthday

Sophie and Stuart, fka MoonPie and JellyBean, came to Feline Rescue on a transport with a large group of cats and kittens who were at risk of being euthanized at an animal control facility.

Sophie (black and white) and Stuart (all black) George are officially a year old now! (as of 3/30/13) They are together in the first picture.

They want to say, "we're all grown up!" They are doing very well and I love them crazy!

Sophie loves her older brother Peter (my older orange tabby). See second picture and fourth picture. Stuart is a little more shy. He is in a picture by himself in the third picture. We have a very happy home! Thank you again for all you did!

Kelly

So wonderful to see them grown and thriving in their forever home. Thank you Kelly!

Thomas: Time to Trust Again

Thomas had been hanging around the neighborhood for quite a while. After a long and very hard winter, finally someone took the time to catch up with him and invite him inside.
Thomas was in rough shape. He was muddy, his ears were filthy, and his fur was full of burrs. He's all fixed and cleaned up now. Thomas will always have a little, bent ear to recall his days on the streets. But it only adds to his charm.
Thomas is a charming orange fellow.  He's looking for someone who understands that he's been through a lot and still needs some time to relax and fully learn to trust again. He was likely once someone's laid-back orange kitty, before he somehow ended up outside and all alone. The soft pink bed here is really helping Thomas remember all the things he loves about living inside. He also likes the toys and all the good food.

Thomas was lucky to have a kind neighbor to rescue him and offer a soft place to land while his medical needs were provided. Now he needs another kind person to take it from here. He's ready to move on to a foster home or even to find a forever home with someone who can show him lots of patience and love. In return, and in time, this sweet, orange guy will bring love and joy into your life too.
For more information or to help Thomas, contact outreach@felinerescue.org.
**Note, Thomas is not a Feline Rescue cat, but we're posting this as a courtesy to his rescuer because we want him to find a great home.

Help spay those strays!

If you are feeding or seeing stray cats in your neighborhood, now is the time to make sure they are spayed and neutered. When you help spay/neuter a stray cat, you help with pet overpopulation by ending the cycle of unwanted litters. And you help improve the quality of life and prevent suffering and death for cats that live outside. See the Alley Cat Allies website for more information on why Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) works. Check out MN SNAP or Kindest Cut for low cost spay/neuter. For more assistance with trapping and spay/neuter of cats in your neighborhood, or if you can help by taking in new moms to help care for and socialize their kittens, contact outreach@felinerescue.org. Please help!

Sisters that play together stay together

Mariah and Delilah were raised in a Feline Rescue foster home and adopted from our adoption center.  We recently got an update from the girls, and it looks like they are happy to still be together!

Dear Feline Rescue,
It's been a few years -- thought you might like to see photos of sisters Etta and Frida (formerly known as Mariah and Delilah). We adopted them from the St. Paul location February 2009. While they look alike, they have totally different personalities..lovely ladies.

Thanks,
J&G

Sisters Lima and Lentil, also raised in a Feline Rescue foster home, are now looking for a new home together after their people could no longer care for them. Lima and Lentil are at our adoption center, but a shelter can be a stressful place for two girls who are used to living in a home. These sweet, beautiful girls would love to find a home together soon!

To meet Lima and Lentil, stop by our Adoption Center or call 651-642-5900, ext. 3 for more information.

Henry sets the facts straight on FIV

I'm a big sweet boy who was out fending for myself all winter. I guess I didn't fend too well, because I was in rough shape by the time a kind person came along to rescue me. I had a bite injury on my leg. I've been all checked out by the surgeon, and she says I don't need surgery, but I may always walk with a limp. That's OK, because I don't plan to be outside anymore. I'm looking for a home that's inside... and forever!

I've tested positive for FIV, but don't let that scare you. That's just an immunodeficiency virus that I picked up out on the streets.  FIV-positive cats have weaker immune systems so can be more prone to getting infections. That's why you should always keep us inside and feed us healthy food. Other than that, FIV-positive cats tend to live normal lives and have a normal length of life. I'm planning on it!

I can even live with cats that are negative, as long as we don't fight. And I have no plans to do any fighting. I'm the big, sweet, submissive type.  I will get along fine with or without other cats. I can live with dogs too.

Despite all I've been through, I really love people. I hope to find a forever home really soon. You can learn more about FIV from Best Friends Animal Society. To learn more about me, see my profile or contact outreach@felinerescue.org.
