We've taken in a number of orphaned/homeless kittens in the past couple months and some of them are are now ready to find their forever homes.

There's Freckles and Samson, Sophie and Stella, BabyCakes and Noel, and Bianca and Jerry. They are all about 3-4 months old and of course very cute, sweet and playful.

Goldy's Home

Goldy was dumped at our shelter with a broken leg last fall. He spent time recovering in his foster home.

Following is the most recent update from his foster home shortly before he found his forever home:

He still walks and runs kind of wobbly sometimes (and looks like a slinky when he comes down the stairs, with his back legs getting ahead or coming around him!), but the people at [the clinic] say he will probably never really walk or run like a normal cat. But he seems happy and healthy otherwise!

And the update from his new family indicates he certainly is doing just fine and is very happy in his home.

Here is the news on Goldy:

We all love him! He is so tolerant with the kids, which is refreshing because our other kitty, Opal, is the opposite. No fights with Opal. A couple hisses the first day but other than that they have warmed up to each other nicely already. Not exactly snuggling together yet, but it seems like they are on their way to being best friends. In the picture where the two cats are pretty close they had been playing together and Goldy was purring the whole time. Yeah! Thanks again for caring for him, we really appreciate all of the time and energy you put into fostering.

Puck Teaches Saski to Roll Over

Former Feline Rescue foster kitten Puck, fka Muffin, and his canine friend Saski are great friends who keep their people well entertained.

Here's the update on Puck: he's doing awesome. Possibly the sweetest and best natured cat we've ever owned. Very personable and cuddly, even with strangers, always wanting to be in on any action going on. Absolutely loves Saski. I want you to see them playing together. I posted a short clip on Youtube entitled "Cat teaches dog to roll over". They are a riot.

Neville - Toasty Warm in His New Home

Neville, fka Tigerhead, joined former Feline Rescue foster kitty Xander, fka Benjamin, in his home. He's obviously having fun with his new family.

We adopted Neville (f.k.a. Tigerhead) late last October, and I realized I haven't updated anyone on him! He is fitting in very well with our other kitties, and he is fantastically relaxed. He doesn't even care when my girlfriend puts her knitted goods on him. He likes to walk around with the scarf trailing behind him.

George Clooney Needs a Foster Home

This very handsome, blue-eyed guy who we've affectionately named George Clooney is in need of a foster home to recover in after his recent eye surgery.

George was rescued from an animal control facility. It certainly appears that he's had a rough life recently but he is still a wonderful, sweet, loving guy. When visiting George the big guy immediately comes right to the front of his kennel so that he can lean into you for hugs, and it doesn't take much to get him purring away.

Cats of the Week: Patrick and Connor

Patrick and Connor. Connor and Patrick. Yes, these two boys are a team, and they are very best friends. You can tell this as they brush against each other in passing, as they spend time playing together in their room, as they are simply so comfortable with each other.

Brothers Patrick and Connor were left on the shelter’s doorstep as little ones several years ago. They experienced life together before the shelter, continue to share experiences now, and would like to stay together to remain happy.

Patrick and Connor would prefer to live in a home without small children. They prefer to approach their people for affection, rather than the other way around. Both are mellow, gentle, and quiet fellows . Patrick loves showing off his big tummy while lying on a rug or blanket on the floor: one of his favorite things to do. A scratch on the head is sheer heaven for Patrick.

Connor also enjoys slipping up close to someone he likes, desiring that wonderful scratch on his head. He also loves a friendly glance when he’s curled up in a favorite bed: just something to let him know he is cherished. These guys also love to chase a wand toy or fuzzy mouse.

Although both are handsome, the boys certainly don’t look alike. Whereas Patrick sports substantial girth and is an orange tabby with attractive white patches, Connor has a sleeker, more athletic physique and his coloring is a soft gray with very faint dilute stripes. They do have similar white stripes on their noses, white bibs, and white markings on their feet and back legs.

Patrick and Connor are used to living with other cats and are very accommodating to other personalities. Connor, especially, is known as a peacemaker at the adoption center. They both make friends easily so would do well either living with other cats or just the two of them.

If you are seeking feline companions who don’t require great amounts of play and stimulation, who would be content snoozing together and exploring their environment in a gentlemanly manner, these two fellows could be a perfect match for you. In turn, they would appreciate someone who is willing to allow them time to settle into their new home in their own quiet way. The result: two lovely boys who would add grace, dignity, and excitement to your home.

Clara Cuddled Into Her New Home

Clara, now named Shelby, moved into a home about a month ago where there was already a resident kitty. Introducing two adult cats to each other can take time and fortunately Shelby's family is letting the two kitties make that adjustment slowly. In the meantime Shelby, from her most recent update and photo, is obviously enjoying her new family.

She is slowly getting settled in. The two cats are getting used to each other and making progress - some days are tough - but moving forward finally. Still some hissing and such - but doing better around each other and can be in the same room together - just not super close to each other yet. But it is getting better. Just trying to give them both lots of love and give them each some time apart too.

Tonight I came home and everyone else was in bed so I was trying to find Shelby before I went to bed to make sure she was doing okay - took me forever to find her - because she was snuggled into the stuffed animals on Ginger's bed- too cute! (attached photo) She loves hanging out in Ginger's room and sleeping on her bed - which Ginger loves.

Anyway - just thought you would love the photo and that we are still working on getting adjusted but slowly getting settled.

Figgy Found His Home

Great Figgy, now named Moscato, update from his new family!

Hello,

Just wanted to give you an update on Figgy. I adopted him in early December, and the second he got in the door I think he knew it was his new home. He immediately found his spot on the couch and has never really left. He is truly a joy to have around and I cannot imagine what I would do without him in my life. I just wanted to thank you for taking such great care of him at your rescue and helping make sure that he was the right cat for me. Figgy's new name is now Moscato, and he has adapted well to that now too, and has even learned a few tricks such as sit and sit pretty. He is such a joy and I am so appreciative for everything you do! Thanks again!

Family finds a home together!

Remember the recent post about a mama cat and her two matching kittens looking for a home together? Well, they were lucky enough to find just that with a lovely family including two kids who were thrilled to have the lively kittens.UPDATE FROM NEW HOME:
Here's a photo of the kitties all snuggled on my bed.

Lacy (we're calling her the Dolly Mama) has finally gotten relaxed enough to come out from under the bed and even play with one of the feather/ball toys. She purrs when I pet her but then gets up, walks a foot or so away and falls over onto her side or belly up and then we start all over again.

Neither of the kitties are sitting still long enough to lay in a lap yet but I napped the other day and Yahoo (or Scamp) curled next to me the whole time. Google (Tipster) is very affectionate and is quite a talker. He is more at ease than his brother or mama.

We love them all and are so happy to have them in our home! Even my husband never minded that we came home with an extra cat.

The kids are interacting with them wonderfully. They will get them playing with a feather wand for a good half hour and watching the aerial maneuvers of the kitties has us gasping in awe and delight.

The Fonz is adopted!

Feline Rescue's Fonzie has been the store cat at Woody's Pet Food Deli for the last few months. Now after three-and-half years with Feline Rescue, the Fonz has finally found his forever home. And it sounds like he's loving it so far!

Dear All at Woody’s:

I wanted to let you know that Fonzie is doing great! It’s been a week since I brought him home and he’s adjusting quite nicely. He’s pretty quiet (expect for at mealtime) and he’s been REAL snuggly. He likes to play in the evening and sleeps on the bed all night. The Fonz is still overgrooming, but he’s been better the last couple days about not getting after his belly area. Hopefully that trend continues. He’s been so easy and fun, I can hardly wait to see what he’s like in a few weeks after he gets settled in some more.

Thank you so much for taking such good care of Fonzie during his stay there!

Many Happy Endings

For years, this group of cats was living outside at an armament proving grounds. A caring employee contacted Feline Rescue last fall for help getting the cats spayed and neutered to break the cycle of homeless cats on the property. Remarkably, the cats were all friendly. So volunteers were able to help not only get them all spayed and neutered but also to get them all out of harm’s way and into loving homes.

The very sociable patriarch of the family, Moose, who was missing most of his ears but more than made up for that with his enormous feet and extra toes, went to the Feline Rescue adoption center and was adopted right away. And sweet Cally, who had lost her tail out there, found her forever home not long afterwards, also at the adoption center. Two of the cats were taken in by company employees.

Three moms with young kittens were cared for by Feline Rescue volunteers. Three-legged and blind, Athena somehow survived many years outside and is now at home with volunteer Mary, who also adopted Athena’s kitten LouLou. Ginger and her son Mitts have made themselves at home with volunteers Mike and Susan.

Kittens Dora, Josie, Penny, Mumford, Petey, and Tigger were all adopted into loving homes. Mom Apricot and kittens Butternut, Oreo, and Hydrox are still looking for permanent homes.

Sisters Princess Leah and Concho were the very last cats to be brought in from the cold. Before coming to the adoption center, they got to spend some time living in a house. They liked it and are hoping to be back in a home again soon! Princess Leah and Concho have always stuck together. They are both a little shy, but they’re sweet and will do well in a new home if they stay together. They love to play and cuddle. Miss Black Now Sirius in Her New Home

Hello,

I just wanted to write to give you an update on Miss Black...We've had her for about 2.5 months and she is doing infinitely better! She has really come out of her shell. We did rename her Sirius. We call her Siri but mostly end up calling her kitty. She responds to whatever as long as I change my voice to call her. She recognizes our tones when we are talking to her and will come to us when called. Around the new year we let her into the bedroom and she has never hiden under the bed. Our house is a big circle so she will run around it to be sneaky. We still haven't introduced her to the second floor but we don't spend much time up there so she doesn't seem interested in going that way anyway. She meows at us when she wants to be petted or food and she just started jumping up on the couches when prompted to get petted by us. She is super well behaved. She doesn't get into the garbage or jump on counters or scratch the furniture. I knitted her a mouse toy stuffed with cat nip and she ignored it for the first month or so and I thought she hated it but one day she just started to play with it and it looks like I'm going to have to make another one because she's torn that thing apart! The blanket that the rescuer gave us helped break her out of her shell. We put it on the floor in the living room and that is straight where she went when she started to come out of hiding in the beginning. Then when she started to go to the couch I put it on one of the cushions and that is where she sleeps every night. The vents in our house used to scare her but now she sits by them when they are on to warm up. She's super funny and we really enjoy having her!

I've attached pictures of her sun bathing today (that was before it snowed!).

Feline Rescue adoption featured by Chuck & Don's

NOTE FROM ADOPTER ON CHUCK & DON'S PET FOOD OUTLET WEBSITE:
I just adopted this "little Dazzler" of a cat from Feline Rescue, Inc. (a no-kill cat-rescue organization in St. Paul) a couple months ago. She was found during last winter - that very cold and snowy February 2011 - just after she had a litter in a cardboard box shelter, and thus, they gave her an adopted name of "Valentine." They told me, "It was too cold even in the shelter box for Valentine to leave the newborn babies for even a minute and she had been eating the straw to stay alive even though there was food just outside the box." Feline Rescue took in the whole litter, took care of their health issues (vet checks, spade/neutering, shots), and this beautiful little family was together for awhile in loving foster care homes until they were all adopted out.

I adopted the mother, "Valentine," and I renamed her "Jazmin" (spelled that way because it's more unique and fun - alias, "Jazzy, Jazmaraz, Jazmataz", or anything else "Jazzy", since she still has alot of kitty-playfullness in her!). It was estimated that she was around 1-1/2 years old when she had that litter (a kitten having kittens), and now is estimated at around 2-1/2 years old.

I think she's a gorgeous little girl, who has (in my opinion) "huge cleopatra eyes with jewels" - her eyes range from light blue, to light green, and very often look turquois! - very striking "jewels" against her calico coloring. One of her foster-mom's told me, "Her eyes are truly exceptional. I have cared for cats all my life and have fostered probably 300 in the last ten years and there are few that come close."

(Just an FYI) ---> She is a medium-long-haired calico, with a mane, and a soft white bushy front collar, and soft white underside. (Aside from the calico coloring, her basic color and white pattern reminds me of a Norwegian Forest Cat, but she has some facial features of a Main Coone (but not their coloring, and her fur is much softer). Jazmin is even a little "video star" (well, sort of -- i.e., one of her foster-moms put a short video of her and her litter on YouTube!) It's a little fuzzy quality, but you can still see how pretty she is, and what a gentle, loving mother she was!

Feline Rescue hosts the Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program's mobile clinic about twice a month. MNSNAP's mission is to end the suffering and death of homeless animals due to pet overpopulation by providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible spay and neuter services.

On Sunday, 40 cats were fixed at the clinic at Feline Rescue. That adds up to a lot of little lives saved! Thanks to everyone who volunteered, participated, or had their cats spayed or neutered.

Alani and Cookie, Mom and Daughter Adopted Together

We were very fortunate to find a home for Alani and Cookie together so that this mother/daughter pair would not have to be separated and so happy to hear that they are already bonding with their family.

The girls are settling in well. Alani always follows me around. She has been sleeping with me during the day and with Mike at night. She lets me hold her for a little bit and yesterday she actually started jumping up and sitting on my lap. I think Cookie is starting to become Kate's cat. Cookie will let her carry her around all over and for long periods of time. She just sits in her arms. It is pretty cute. She will let Mike and I hold her for about a minute before she gets restless.

We have found that we cannot leave food on the counter, or top of the fridge. One of them, we suspect Cookie, killed a loaf of bread that we left out on the counter to thaw overnight. The next morning there were huge holes in the bag, the loaf was flattened and there were huge holes in it and crumbs on the counter. The next evening there was a bag of cookies on the counter. I wasn't home. Mike put the kids to bed and about an hour later he came out and found a hole in the bag and one of the cookies on the floor in front of the fridge. We decided Cookie was aptly named, because again, we are blaming it on her, although they were both munching on Alex's unfinished bagel that he had for breakfast this morning. So much for a grain free diet. No more lazing around after meals. They are receiving a lot of love and have settled in well.

Last kitten family of the season??

Remember these little guys from an earlier blog post? Well, they are big enough to be adopted now and their mom is ready, too!

Kitten season is pretty much over until spring (time for the foster families to catch their collective breath). But wait, there is still a sweet mom and her two young boys at my house. They are a matched set in white and gray.

LACY Pregnant mom cat Lacy was rescued from a house with too many cats, so we all were surprised (but happy) when she only had two male kittens, I eventually named them Google and Yahoo. Only two kittens, but one was still a runt and barely survived with extra special care. Yahoo is a spunky little fellow. He is still smaller, but more independent and playful than his bigger brother Google who is more of a mama's boy, lap kitty.

YAHOO Since all were spayed/neutered before Christmas, Lacy has become much more playful as we often see in mamas. It's so fun to watch her chase and play with the kittens. She was a rather strict devoted mom when they were little, but now they play together as well have bonding sessions where she still allows some recreational nursing.

HAPPY FAMILYI'd love to see them all three go to a home together!!! But, I am open to the opportunities that arise. The two little boys could go as a pair or Mom Lacy with Google. Lacy could go to a home solo as long as her new person would be around enough to love her and play with her, but the little boys will need some playmate in their new home.

What a difference an afternoon with a kitten makes!

Khaki the cat has had a hard life. A very hard life. And things are not getting any easier for him. He's been on the streets. He was once in a home but they had a lot of strict rules. He wasn't allowed on the furniture. He wasn't even allowed to sit on a throw rug. He's seen a few years. Been in a few scuffles. And he has diabetes. He drinks a lot of water. He moves very slowly. His fur is a little dry. He's lost a ton of weight. He should be fluffy and beautiful. His eyes show that he's not feeling well. His insulin isn't regulated yet. Once the vet figures out what his dosage should be (which takes a long time), the spring will return to his step. His fur will look and feel magnificent. He will feel magnificent.

For all that he's been through, he is incredibly sweet. Khaki does not like to sit on furniture, even furniture designed for cats. He won't sit in any pet bed, regardless of its shape, size, and fluff level. He won't even sit on a throw rug. He prefers to sit on the hardwood floor, in the corner, under a table. He'll awkwardly sit on a lap for a few minutes, enjoying the petting and chin scratches, purring the entire time. He'll look up with grateful, adoring eyes. After a few minutes, Khaki will wonder if he's being a bother and will politely jump down off the lap and sit on the floor, next to the person who was petting him. He likes attention. He's just not used to it.

One afternoon, Khaki received a visit from Lenny the kitten, kitten extraordinaire. They greeted each other by sniffing each other's nose intently (Khaki did not appreciate a butt sniffing). Khaki laid a few feet away from Lenny the kitten, who gleefully explored Khaki's room. He quietly observed the kitten in action. After a little bit, the kitten settled down in a nice comfy chair. Khaki retreated to his corner. Lenny the kitten said his good-byes, giving Khaki his room back. The little kitten's exuberance rubbed off on Khaki. Moments after the door closed, Khaki, for the first time since moving to his foster home, crawled into a bright pink cat bed and fell asleep. Lenny the kitten taught him - "Be comfy!"

Khaki is currently in a foster home and is looking for a forever home. Khaki is looking for someone who is patient, understanding, and will love him unconditionally. He's an absolute sweetheart. He's very mellow. He loves, loves, loves catnip. He has opinions about things and lets everyone know what he's thinking... but in a nice way. Sometimes his yowl is more demanding than he really intends it to be (in other words, he's all talk!). He prefers to soak up life rather than zip through it. He moves a little slow. He's not in any rush. He doesn't want to be a bother but if you have a minute, he'd love a little attention. His heart his kind. His eyes speak volumes about his rough past. He would love nothing more than a kind word, a chin scratch, and a smile.

A Boy Named Schmokey

Schmokey has already found a favorite lap to snuggle in and listen to poetry.

We think he is settling in very well.

Schmokey was a little shy at first, but once we pulled his blanket out and put it on our daughter's lap he crawled right up with her and the way he is sitting in the photo, all nestled, was totally on his own! In the photo they are reading the poem "It's Dark In Here" by Shel Silverstein (which happens to be about someone getting a little too close to a lion). Maybe it was the feline subject that caught his interest, but they sat like that for quite awhile and a number of poems!

Happy to report that Saami (formerly Sesame) has become a very happy and delightful member of our family. We have an 18 year old tabby who is also adjusting quite well, as he wasn't very keen on having to share his home with another cat. We are enjoying seeing Saami's whimsical personality and sense of humor coming out more and more. He continues to become more comfortable each day. We are so glad to have him in our family.

Titanic!

Titan is big in size and big on personality too! This gentle guy is a cuddler and a lap-cat.

Titan also loves to play. He likes to hang out in his crinkle tunnel... and he sure does fill it up!

Titan currently resides at the Feline Rescue Adoption Center. His roommates and playmates were recently adopted. Now he's ready to find his home too!

Titan gets along well with other young cats with a slow introduction. He's a big guy, but he's gentle.

Agatha and Arthur were abandoned near the Feline Rescue Adoption Center. Agatha was scared off, but luckily she hunkered down and later returned to be reunited with her son, Arthur. These two make a fine pair!

Agatha and Arthur are both full of energy and love to play. They have long, sleek bodies and are very athletic. Little Arthur is a whirlwind when he gets going. This guy is tons of fun! And then when he settles down, he's a sweetheart just like his momma.

Agatha loves to be held and cuddled. She also likes to talk and has a cute, little trill.

Agatha and Arthur share quite a bond, and now that they're back together, they'd like to stay that way. Maybe this little family will make the perfect addition to your family?

Five Fun Cuddly Little Boys

About three months ago nine very thin, sick kittens, affectionately called The Box of Nine, were abandoned in our shelter parking lot. This group of kittens have been through quite a lot. They had multiple extended stays at our vet clinic. And they lost their sibling Skittles, the smallest and sickest of the kittens, who passed away despite everyone's best efforts. Now thanks to the veterinary staff and caring foster homes, five handsome little boys are ready to find their own homes.

Rocket, Yoda and Wolfgang are together in one foster home.

And Toby and Marshmallow are together in a second foster home.

Squirt and Bella

Squirt, fka Bing Clawsby, and his friend Bella are so sweet together we had to share their latest update.

I just wanted to send you a quick update on Bing/Squirt. He is doing really well and is growing fast. He has a lot of energy and keeps us laughing. He is also a complete snuggle bunny - he loves to curl up around me and lay his head on my cheek when I am sleeping.

Squirt has a true friend in our dog Bella. They adore each other. They are always playing with each other, grooming each other and cuddling up together.

He is such a curious cat and has no fear. I was worried that he would climb the Christmas tree, but he hasn't. He does like to bat at the decorations on the bottom, but otherwise leaves the tree alone. He would much rather curl up underneath it - to my great relief! :)

Skater Girls Update

Cossette fka Peggy and Emilie fka Dorothy have settled in to their forever home and are bonding with the older kitties in the home. These cute girls started off in foster care as orphaned babies with their sister Sonja. Following is the latest update from their family.

Naomi and the kittens are getting along really well. They spend a lot of time together. We got a giant play tube from IKEA (meant for children). The kittens love playing with the tube. One kitten will be inside the tube and the other will play with them from the outside. Sometimes they are all in the tube.

Cossette likes to find things. She was taking the drain out of the bathroom sink and bringing it to the living room each day. She also likes looking for potpourri, pine cones, and other small objects she can carry around in her mouth. Then she will try to hide her treasures under a blanket.

Emilie likes to be as high as possible. She is very athletic and smart. She has decided that she likes to be under blankets and will try to climb under any blanket she can find. She likes to be held though or push her golf ball around at night. She also likes to sit on books in bookcases. Of course, no one can see her on the bookcase or on the fireplace mantel or on the counter top.

I am so glad we adopted the kittens. Naomi used to just sit in her chair all day and I think she was depressed. She seems so much happier now. She has friends to play with and keep her company now. Our other cat Penelope loves people but is a loner when it comes to cats. She seems to enjoy watching the kittens and the kittens seem to like having a big cat to cuddle up to.

Big Al's family recently posted a photo of him on the Feline Rescue Facebook page. So of course we asked for more to share online and we got the following great photos and as a bonus an update.

I adopted Big Al on Jan. 9, 2010, so he's been with me almost 2 years. He made himself at home right away, and he has been a very dear and fun companion. He's got a friendly, outgoing personality, even toward other cats. He was a stray before coming to Feline Rescue, and although he is pretty well socialized, you can see the alley cat in him when there's any kind of food around. We have daily disagreements about who gets to eat my breakfast. It's hard to stay mad at him even when he steals my toast, though, because he is so ready to chase a string or curl up on my lap to snuggle. He is bright eyed, alert and always wants to know what is happening. He has actually adapted to going outside on a leash and taking walks around the neighborhood, which makes a big impression on my neighbors. One time a lady driving by pulled over to tell me I had made her day--she had never seen anyone "walking a cat" before and she thought it was incredibly cool.

The first [set of photos] is from my old apartment, showing Big Al in some of his favorite spots, plus an original shelter photo of him. The other is from the apartment we moved to in September, and shows him exploring the new place. He seems to have settled on the radiator as the best place to hang out. It's right in front of the window, so he has a good view of the birds and squirrels, plus it is nice and warm.

Thanks so much for all you do for kitties in need! I'm glad I had the chance to adopt Big Al; he adds a lot of fun and sweetness to my household.

Muffin's New German Shepherd Friend

We usually caution people that it can take a week or two or sometimes months before a new kitty feels comfortable around other animals in their home. But in less than a week former Feline Rescue foster kitten Muffin has gone from scared and unsure of his new canine family member Saski to sleeping and playing together.

A little play by play from Muffin's family...

We've tried to introduce the two animals but Muffin is quite scared of Saskia. Hopefully in time he will realize Saski is no threat and will become friends.

Well Muffin is acting more and more relaxed, even purring in my lap with Saski in the room. Saski keeps her distance and is being very patient. It's beginning to look hopeful.

Just returned from my trip. while I was gone, the kitten has become completely tolerant of Saski, to the point where it appears that Saski has him in her mouth or totally under her big paws, and the cat just accepts this and playfully bites and paws at her nose! I honestly can't believe it. They are sleeping together on the bed with Sara at night. The kitten is a little ninja, very fast, Saski gives chase and he is fearless as well as gentle with her. Amazing.

They are becoming best buddies. We decided on the name Boris in honor of Sara's sister's cat, a beautiful black male who died recently.

Thank you to Boris's new family! Always heartwarming to see a former Feline Rescue kitty adapting well in their home.

From Space Explorers to Hockey Players

Spock and Kirk have resigned from the Federation, landed in their forever home and taken up hockey (floor hockey with a stuffed mouse). They are now named Ovie and Oodie and these playful young guys could certainly give the real Ovie and Oodie a run for their money.

Spock is primarily black so their adopters had to wait until November to take them home. While they waited to bring home the boys, their mom made them their very own personalized bowl :)

Mr. Magoo

Mr. Magoo is a special guy with special needs who found his forever home a little over a year and half ago. We recently received the following wonderful update from his family.

Magoo, Summer 2011

Hello- just wanted to share some pictures with you of my Mr. Magoo who I adopted from you in April 2010. You probably recall that Mr. Magoo was found on the street by himself as a very young kitten. He has very limited vision and requires daily eye treatments. After fostering, he came in to my home one month after I lost my senior cat Toby to a brain tumor. Magoo wins the hearts of all who meet him...he is mischievous, funny and has rituals that bring a lot of laughter into this home. He is great friends w/ 10 year old Oliver who is making a miraculous recovery from lymphoma of the intestine. Lily tolerates Magoo....now that she is deaf she finds him less annoying. He is oblivious to her rebuffs and occupies his time by himself if Oliver is sleeping.

Dominic and Layla came from the same foster home. After spending a few weeks apart, they were recently reunited as roommates at the Feline Rescue Adoption Center. We didn't know that they were friends, but after seeing them together, it's pretty clear how much they love each other!

Shy Layla has really come out of her shell since being reunited with her buddy Dominic.

BabyCakes

BabyCakes came into rescue almost 2 weeks ago at about 3 weeks old but weighing only 5 ounces.

Alani, one of our momma cat's in foster care, is letting BabyCakes nurse a couple times a day with her 3 month old kittens: Muffin, Cookie and Danish. BabyCakes is a smart, spunky little girl holding her own with Alani's kittens, toddling over to use the litter box, and being bottle fed every 4 hours to supplement nursing since Alani's kittens are older and not nursing as much recently. She has already almost tripled her weight in less than 2 weeks, weighing in at 12 ounces yesterday.

Sammy's Family

Sammy was spayed last week through Feline Rescue's Spay-Neuter-Outreach program along with a group of outdoor cats. But a sweet, orange girl like this belongs inside with you!

Sammy and her kittens will soon be ready to go to new homes. The orange kittens, Pumpkin and Butternut, are both girls. Acorn, the little gray one, is a boy. He has extra toes just like mom!

Oreo and Hydrox may look out of place, but they were welcomed into Sammy's family nonetheless. They came from the same colony and are now ready for adoption.

Cecilia is one of our many mom cats in foster care. She was a great mama to her five kittens but they have all been adopted so now it's her turn to be spoiled and cared for the way she cared for her babies. Sadly, often the kittens are adopted first leaving the mom cats to wait awhile for their forever homes.Cecilia is a pretty calico-tabby cat with lovely green eyes. She is very mellow and friendly and loves to be with people. She ignores the large elderly dog in her foster home, and is not afraid of the other adult cats. She acts like she wants to play with them but isn't sure how to do it yet! She likely would be good with kids and could be an only cat or be a companion to another cat with the proper introduction period. Lucy and Desi, the young cats left behind in an apartment about a month ago, are back on their feet and ready to find their forever homes.

Desi, or the Blue Guy as we like to call him, is a sweet and beautiful boy.

Little Lucy, the tabby, is a very charismatic kitten. She's curious, playful, and affectionate. She loves to be held and to cuddle. She plays nicely with Desi and the other young cats here. She even loves the dog!

Bing Clawsby and His New Canine Friend Bella

Squirt fka Bing Clawsby, one of 5 orphaned kittens rescued in August, found his forever home and now has a new best friend Bella. Following are a couple updates from his family.

A few days after going home:
He is doing GREAT! The ride home went really well. He stayed in his box and didn't try to get out. He was shy for about an hour when I brought him home, but then he decided he would have more fun running around the house and checking the place out. He is a very outgoing & cuddly little guy. We have started to call him Squirt. Our dog absolutely loves him!!! She has taken to washing his face for him. He sits back with his eyes closed and purrs. Bing is extremely tolerant of her and really seems to enjoy playing with her. I have no doubt they will be great friends. The cats have accepted him, although they don't seem to know what to think just yet. Occasionally someone will hiss, but it always ends at that. He slept in bed with us last night. He snuggled right in next to Bella (our dog). It was very cute.

And just yesterday:

I have attached a few photos of Bing (Squirt). He is doing well and is such a happy little guy. Bella (our dog) is in love with him. They follow each other around the house and they bathe each other ... of course I can never get a photo, because they are usually laying ontop of me at bedtime - trapping me under the covers. :)

As he gets bigger, I will keep taking photos and I will periodically send a few to you. I hope that is OK.

Thank you for everything. He is a sweet, sweet little guy and I couldn't imagine life without him. He has truely made himself a member of our family. ;)

National Feral Cat Day October 16

Join Feline Rescue in observing National Feral Cat Day on October 16th. Alley Cat Allies launched National Feral Cat Day in 2001 to promote Trap-Neuter-Return, to raise awareness about feral cats, and to recognize the millions of compassionate Americans who care for
them.

On National Feral Cat Day, Feline Rescue volunteers will have an informational table, to educate the public about how to help community cats, at Chuck and Don’s in Roseville on Sunday Oct. 16th from 12-3.

Feline Rescue is also partnering with Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MN SNAP) to bring their mobile clinic to our shelter about twice a month. Our next clinic is October 18th. Two young explorers, Kirk and Spock, were left at the Feline Rescue shelter a little over a month ago. They're now ready to find a home and the following photos show just how tight these two are. They are the very best of friends and need to stay together.

She visited the adoption center October 1 with her husband, son, and son’s girl friend to present the Pettie certificate and the check to Feline Rescue. Phoebe, Cosmo, and Saffy (The Bailey family's kitties) were unable to attend. However, Angie and the Bailey family did meet current grey tabby guest Bailey. Besides the Box of Nine kittens, we've had a few more groups of kittens left at the Feline Rescue shelter in the past couple weeks.

Jovi and Chai were found last week in the parking lot, also in a box. Fortunately this brother/sister pair were much healthier and are very busy playing and exploring in their foster home. Their first time foster caregiver is really enjoying these cuties.

Three of the Box of Nine

We've been referring to a recent group of rescued kittens as the Box of Nine even though only seven were actually found crammed in that small, unventilated box. One of the nine was found crying next to the box and the ninth kitten was found the next day on the other side of the Feline Rescue shelter parking lot. They were all very sick and thin and spent most of a week at the vet clinic. They're doing much better and gaining weight and have all moved to foster homes.

Following is an update for one group who are in foster together.

Monkey is the little scamp with a bit of tabby but a white chest and a white wish-bone shape above his nose. He LOVES being petted and will climb all over you for attention! He is also very curious and wants to see what is outside the world of the den!

Joey is the grey tabby - he is so playful and loves to cuddle, especially with his sister! He just started warming up and now loves to be petted. He can often be found just chilling out, sitting on the footstool or in the hidey-bed.

Spectra is the lovely calico - she is a little more reserved but she also started letting us pet her. She likes to sleep in the carier on her little pink blankey but she also will come out to get attention and play with her brothers!

They're all little purr machines! They are eating very well (wet food is their favorite!).

A big thanks to the volunteers who stepped forward to provide foster homes for these kittens!

We’re Lucy and Desi. We once had a family, but one day they moved away and left us behind. For days we waited for someone to return. By the time someone found us, we were starving. Lucy had gotten her leg caught in her collar, and had a large, infected wound. We were discovered just in time.

Despite all that happened, we still want to love and trust people. That’s just our nature. We’re really sweet, friendly cats! We’re looking for people who will love us, and feed us, and hug us, and play with us… and never leave us behind. We promise not to let you down either.

Fundraiser for Tippie's Eye Surgery

Tippie, a very special foster kitty who has her own Facebook group, will be having eye surgery
September 29. Her foster mom, Carolyn, has generously offered to match each $200 in donations made to Feline Rescue specifically for Tippie's surgery with a bag of kitty toys. I am pleased to tell everyone what an amazing cat Tippie is growing into both physically and emotionally. She has gone from a very tiny, scared, somewhat unpredictable little girl to a long, lean, loving and trusting cat. Did I mention playful? She is a bundle of energy, constantly exploring and attempting new tricks for me to catch on camera. In her down time she loves to snuggle on my lap, or right beside me on the couch. One of her favorite past times is watching the world go by outside, no doubt grateful she is safe and sound in a place full of snuggles, kisses, warm beds, good food, and baskets of toys!

Tippie was brought under the shelter’s care blind in one eye. A recent visit to the specialist confirmed the cause due to trauma, likely a claw puncturing her cornea (cat fight). She seems to do great despite half of her vision gone. Unfortunately there is more swelling of the eye, redness, and drainage as time goes by. It has been recommended her eye be removed and permanently closed. Tippie also has feline herpes virus in the other eye which will require minor treatment from time to time for the remainder of her life. I don’t think either eye is causing her to be unhappy, but I have no doubt once the surgery is through, she will feel like a new kitty…even more full of life!

Tippie’s surgery is scheduled for 9/29/2011. In an effort to raise funds for both the surgery and medical costs (2 weeks at the vet when first brought to Feline Rescue, checkups, specialist, medication, surgery, any follow up care). I would like to offer something in return to keep the cycle of giving going round. For every $200 raised SPECIFICALLY for Tippie’s care in the next 30 days, I will buy a bag full of toys for all the kitties at the Feline Rescue shelter. Don’t worry, it will be big and full of GOOD stuff (catnip pillows, wands, cubes, mice, balls, trackers, etc).

Injured Kitten - Foster Homes Needed

This little guy was found on a road injured and brought to our shelter yesterday morning. He's doing well at the vet clinic receiving pain medication as they determine the extent of his injuries.

In the past couple days Feline Rescue has had quite a few emergency intakes at a time when the foster program was already stretched to its limits.

We currently have 10 kittens that we need to find foster homes for. Eight 2 month old kittens found by a volunteer outside the shelter crammed into a small, unventilated box Wednesday afternoon (we have a foster home for two of the eight), this 7 week old kitten brought to the shelter injured after being found on the side of the road yesterday morning, a 4 month old kitten and a 6 month old kitten found starving and injured in an empty apartment, and a 6 to 8 week old kitten found in the parking lot of the shelter last night.

Summerset was recently adopted from the Feline Rescue Adoption Center. Here is a note from her new mom.

Thank you for checking in with us. Miss Izabelle, or Izzy, and I are doing GREAT! She is soooo sweet and she adapted to my home within hours of her arriving there. She loves to gnaw on stuff (including metal) however, which makes me nervous, so I’m covering everything up with towels and I’m sure she will grow out of that stage. She has made every sink in my home her bed and it cracks me up. I’ve bought her soft cushy beds and she would rather lay in the cool sinks.
I love her, and we are so lucky that we found each other. Thank you and the entire Feline Rescue volunteers for keeping her safe and happy until I was able to take her home.

Foxy and Mr. Friendly: the pair that has it all

Foxy and Friendly make a perfect pair. They’ve got looks and personality! Mr. Friendly is Mr. Personality. He’s outgoing, affectionate, and a great lap cat.

A little timid at first, Foxy is a sweet and gorgeous cat. Pick her up and check out that cute, fluffy, brown tummy. And how about that poofy tail!

Poor Friendly was found abandoned in a park. In his foster home, he met little Foxy, and they really hit it off. They like to snuggle and especially to wrestle and play. Now this young pair is at the Feline Rescue Adoption Center and looking for the perfect home! What more could you want than this perfect pair?

Sweet Girls in Their New Home

Sweet update received for Marmalade and Cami fka Angelica and Aggie aka Sandi Patti and Sugar Baby. Lots of names for these little girls as they moved from one foster home to another and now in their forever home.

The kittens are having a great time. I think they love the wood floors the most because everything they decide to play with rolls so much farther. They scamper and roam the upstairs now when they're not snuggly napping with their big sister Smudge. The attached picture shows all of them together on my daughters bed.

We have renamed them. The orange tabby is now Marmalade and her sister is Cami because we all thought her colored fur looked just like the forest floor camouflage that my husband wore in the army. They seem to like the names and are responding to them when we call.

Thanks for giving them such a great start. They have truly completed our home.

Emma fka Brownie has certainly bonded with her new buddy Winston as you can see from the photos we just received from her family.

We adopted Brownie (now Emma) from the shelter a little over four months ago. We most wanted a cat that would get along with our Winston. Brownie was very shy with people but loved the other cats in the “Flex room”. It took Brownie some time to feel comfortable with us humans but it took no time for her to fall in love with Winston.

They have become such good friends and she is opening up to us too!

Momma cat, Callie aka Twiggy, and her daughter Ella have found a forever home together! Callie had eight babies and it is so great that she was able to be with one of her kittens since as you can see from the update from their family, they love each other's companionship.

Oh my! What a weekend we’ve had. It’s been SO much fun! The girlies have made themselves purr-fectly at home already. They’re eating well, and Callie has only coughed a few times. They are adorable. We’ve all fallen in love with them. Etta is definitely the more playful of the two. Callie seems a bit skittish yet. They’re purr machines. Callie will come up to you on her own, and sit there, just out of reach, and purr, but does not like too much handling yet. They both “talk” to us when we talk to them. So cute!

Alani and her three kittens were pulled from an impound facility when their time was almost up. Alani was brought into the facility pregnant and after a couple weeks had her babies there in her kennel. The kittens are not quite two weeks old and their eyes are just beginning to open.

Mom and babies are doing very well in their new foster home. Alani is a good mom and a very sweet, affectionate cat who loves to be held.
