Duke Ellington, Gentleman Cat

I may not be the first cat you notice when you visit Feline Rescue's Adoption Center. At times I'm in deep meditation, pondering the delicious things in life. At other times, I like to mix with the people and charge them a petting toll before they may pass. I keep the humans guessing. I confess, I like to play hard to get. It's all part of my charm. If you want to see my wild side, just bring out a laser pen! I love to chase that red dot for all its worth.

I've been at Feline Rescue for a long time. Why? I have no idea! I have so many fine qualities. I'm laid back and well behaved. I always use the litter box and I have impeccable manners. I'm very polite to other cats. And let me tell you, I've met quite a few! I don't like to fight. I'm a peaceful guy. And best of all, I'm orange!

My sister and I came to Feline Rescue in 2003, after being rescued by volunteers.  Then I was adopted with my sister, Billie Holliday. When our person moved, he didn't take us with.  So we came back to Feline Rescue. Billie Holiday found her 'forever home' but I'm still here, years later.

I've made many good friends in my life at Feline Rescue, both human and feline. But I'd love to have a family and home to call my very own. I'd like a calm home, with other peaceful zen-cats like me, no wee children chasing me. If you're looking for another gentle cat like me, you could adopt my friend Sadey too! She's a fine girl. Share me with your friends if you have no room at the inn. They may be looking for a special orange guy like me!

Ashley, A True Companion

There are many deserving older cats looking for a second chance at having a happy home.  When you adopt an adult cat, you make room for more cats and kittens to come in off the streets.   Another benefit to adopting a mature cat over a kitten is that you know exactly what you are getting.

If you are looking for a lap cat and a follow-you-everywhere kind of friend, Ashley is your girl!  Ashley had a home for many years.  But when her person’s life changed direction, Ashley no longer fit into the plans.  So she returned to Feline Rescue, scared and confused.

Ashley is an affectionate cat who forms strong bonds with the people she trusts, so losing her person was difficult.  But it took Ashley just a week to bond with her foster caregiver.  She follows him everywhere.  Her favorite thing to do is to cuddle in his lap.  Now Ashley is ready to find a forever home.

Ashley has quite a few years under her belt.  But she’s very healthy and active.  If you have an empty lap and are looking for a true companion, please consider adopting Ashley.  This old girl deserves a loving home and lots of attention.

Four lovely ladies in need of homes!

Our story is a sad one, but a common one. Our human mama recently died and we had no place to go. We were very sad and very scared, especially since we heard the rumor that we might be going to Animal Control. Gasp!

Luckily for us, at the last minute Feline Rescue learned of our unfortunate situation and they took us in and now we're waiting for the next chapter of our lives to start. We may be mature ladies but age is just a number ;)

We are currently living at the vet and although they're very nice here it sure isn't anything like our former home!We are looking for a permanent foster home and/or adoptive home.

Although we lived together we aren't exactly what you'd call friends. In fact some of us actually prefer to part ways. Having four intelligent and mature ladies under one roof can be challenging. So what we're saying is that we do not need to stay together and we would be happy if we each had a home all to ourselves.

If you're interested in fostering us, Feline Rescue will foot the bill for medical and other expenses, so all you'd need to provide is a loving home!

Senior Cats on TV

For those who missed seeing it "live," KARE 11 broadcast a short piece highlighting Adopt-a-Senior-Cat month. Look at all of those lovelies, hoping someone will invite them home for Thanksgiving (and forever after).

November is Adopt-a-Senior-Cat Month

Senior cats are in trouble if they lose their home and it happens all too often.
A couple has a baby and the cat has trouble adjusting...
A new cat or dog joins the household and they don't get along...
The owner, due to age or financial problems, is no longer able to keep their pet...

Many shelters routinely euthanize senior cats and sometimes any cat over one year of age because of the difficulties of adopting them out. Cats over the age of six or seven may be considered "senior" when they are really still in the prime of their life since indoor cats generally live to age 15 or more.

There are benefits to adopting a senior cat. They are generally calmer and less likely to get into trouble. Their personalities are established so you can really find a good match for your household. They are far less demanding of attention and generally happy just to be in your company.

Feline Rescue promises a lifelong commitment to the cats we take into our care. If they don't get adopted, they stay with us, but living at a shelter is seldom the best life for a cat. We have several cats who are really looking for their own homes now to get away from the hustle and bustle of the shelter and we are reducing their adoption fee to try to help make that a reality.
