Rest in Peace, Skittles

I am so sad to report that within twelve hours of the filming of this video, my little foster kitten, Skittles, became ill and despite three days of vet visits for fluids and medicine and syringe-feedings, she faded away and died last night.

Today she would have been eight weeks old. It is very possible that she had internal deformities (as well as her twisted legs and tail) that were taking a toll as she got older.

I take comfort that she had all the fun and love she did in her short life. Her mother Candy was with her every step of the way. I think she knew it was coming.

Queen Velvet

Feline Rescue lost another good friend this week. Velvet long reigned at the shelter. Adopted into the home of one of her favorite volunteers, Velvet spent the last several months being loved and pampered at home. We will miss you Velvet.

Rest in Peace, Sweet Frederick

Frederick was found last fall wandering in circles in a South Minneapolis yard. This gentle soul was blind and emaciated when brought into rescue.

Frederick's foster caregiver provided amazing care for him as he fought an uphill battle with his glaucoma, blindness, arthritis, IBS, pancreatitis, hypertension and failing kidneys. He passed away peacefully today and will truly be missed.

In Loving Memory of Riley

Riley, a beloved and long-time resident at Feline Rescue, passed away last week. He was surrounded by cats and people who loved him. Riley was most often found squeezed into a bed or basket with with two or three other cats. He greatly enjoyed the companionship of his many friends in the "shy room", particularly Duke (fellow orange tabby) and little Daisy Mae.

We miss you, Riley.

In loving memory of Subira

Subira
Unknown – June 17, 2010

She was smart.
She was cranky.
She was odd.
She was Adorable.
She had strong opinions.
She could sing for her supper – also lunch and breakfast and snacks.
She was so Odd that she was Adorable.
We Loved Her.
She was Precious.

In memory of Subira and Frazier, help Feline Rescue help even more kitties. Find out how you can help.

We love you Frazier

Long-time shelter favorite Frazier (pictured center) passed away peacefully last night with friends by his side. Frazier had many admirers of both the feline- and people-kind. He will be greatly missed.

Remembering Rufus

Rufus, adopted from Feline Rescue in 2004, passed away recently.

His family sent us a beautiful note and a link to Rufus's own Web site.  Rufus will be missed, but it is a comfort to all the volunteers who knew him to know how well loved he was.

From his family:
I feel I have lost the best companion of my life, but in looking back I treated every day with him as a gift and loved doing things for him and with him. Thank you again for letting us adopt him and giving us five wonderful years with him. Right now though the pain and loss is unbearable.

A few months ago I made this web site of his pictures and videos. You can see how happy he was,

Thank you again.

Farewell to Poppa

Poppa's health problems persisted in his foster home until it was clear we could only offer the final kindness of helping him to cross over the Rainbow Bridge.

We want to send a very special Thank You and our sympathies to Laura who was his foster mom and gave him such wonderful care and love for his last days.

We are so grateful that he and his little family found their way to Feline Rescue so that he didn't have to suffer and die outdoors. He can rest assured that his family will find good homes.

In Memory of Grace

Grace, a special needs foster cat, has passed away. She touched the hearts of everyone who cared for her. She had spent the past few weeks enjoying her foster caregiver's garden and being held and loved.
