Amber's Family Safe Inside

Amber was a stray cat who showed up with her kittens at the house of a kind Feline Rescue volunteer, who kept them fed and eventually managed to get them all trapped and brought inside.

First, kittens Joey, Sophie, and Emma were trapped. They are now in a foster home, where they are learning all about living in a house with people. They are still shy but making progress every day thanks to their patient caregiver. Joey leads the way, showing his sisters that it's OK to come out to play, to sit up high in the cat tree, and to beg for those delicious dried fish treats from his foster person.

Sophie, the calico who looks like her mother except fluffier, is the smallest and shyest but also loves to play.

And sweet, little Emma was the first to learn that purring earns you more pets from your foster dad. She is very sweet.

It took several weeks to convince Amber's last, too-smart-for-her-own-good, little kitten to come inside. But her rescuers didn't give up. They tracked her habits on camera and finally last week were able to convince her to go into the trap. We're so glad that Eliza is now safe and warm too!

Momma Amber is a sweet, quiet cat. She likes to sit in laps. She purrs when you pet her and kneads in the air. Right now Amber is safe, warm, and well-fed at Woody's Pet Food Deli in St. Paul.  Amber likes other cats and would love to find a home with another cat or could be adopted with one of her kittens.

Need a Buddy? Meet Crusher

Volunteering in rescue, every new day and every new cat presents new challenges. Here’s one of our latest challenges: The Crusher.

Crusher was a stray, rescued from impound through Feline Rescue’s outreach program. His kennel card read, “Caution! Will bite” which turned out to be no lie. When picked up from animal control, the Crusher emerged from his carrier very angry—hissing, snorting, and lunging. “Uh oh,” I thought.  This was not one of those scared, shy and predictable feral cats with which we're quite comfortable. Here was a huge, in-your-face, understandably angry cat. We could see in his face that Crusher was really a sweet boy, and we wanted to help him. But honestly, he was big and scary!

While Crusher spent a couple more weeks in a kennel to recover from his neuter and vaccinations, several volunteers helped by talking to him nicely and slipped food dishes and treats through the bars of his cage. Slowly Crush started to trust and relax a little. Eventually he even started to play with us at a distance.

Crush and I worked out an understanding, and he would let me open his door to clean out his kennel and give him fresh water every day. But he still lunged at me if I tried anything fancy. We were not getting along.

So I brought Crusher home to foster. It took Crusher a few days to settle down again. But when he stopped lunging and we were able to safely let him out of his cage, then things really started to change. Crusher was able to see that he could trust us, and then we could trust him too. Turns out, he’s a Lap Crusher, a real snuggler.

Crush likes to receive chin scratches and to give head-butts (and everyone had to take a major leap of faith to find this out). Crush still has some progress to make before he’s a totally comfortable and predictable house cat. But it’s just a matter of spending time with people he can trust. Crush loves his new buddy.

If you too have faith in this big, sweet boy and can offer the Crusher a home and be his next buddy, please call Molly at 651-295-3758 or email outreach@felinerescue.org.

McMuffin is Learning Italian

From Anne, McMuffin's new mom:

Hi everybody !

This is Micio speaking (formerly McMuffin). "Micio" means "cat" in Italian. I'm bi-lingual now
I wanted to tell you how happy I am in my Forever Home.

I have a darling little sister (Daisy). We stay together all day, and our favorite fun is running thru the 3-part tunnel, and wresting with each other in our human's bed in the middle of the night !!

My other new sister, Boots (Raisin) rules the house, and has not warmed to my incredible charms. But she will !!

Now, back to fun and games...

Misty Morning in Her New Home

Misty Morning, adopted recently from Feline Rescue Adoption Center, is already settling nicely into her home.

Bunch of photos and an update from her new family:

Shelby (Misty Morning) is doing very good in her new home. She loves looking out the window and snuggling up with her new parents. She is also quite the jumper and we find her on top of the refrigerator at night. I want to thank you again for this opportunity.

Thank you Carly and Bruce
