Sponsor a Shelter Cat

Some of Feline Rescue’s guests believe that everything they need is right here at our Adoption Center. They prefer other cats to people. They are older and set in their ways. They have health conditions. They’d love to be someone’s “virtual cat”.

How about honoring someone, even yourself, with a Gift Sponsorship for one or more of our special guests? Choose any occasion – or no occasion at all. For just $50, Feline Rescue will send your honoree – or you – a photo of “your” cat, along with his or her story, and our special greeting card acknowledging your gift.

Sponsor Cuteness

The cutest kittens ever often come to us as orphans. Others are born in foster care to homeless moms. Every litter needs veterinary care, food, vaccinations, and more. Feline Rescue has plenty of love. However, kittens also need the stuff that money can buy.

Join us as a Friend of Kittens and sponsor a litter. As we say, "every litter bit helps!"

Friends of Flicka has offered to match, dollar for dollar, the first $2,000 in sponsorships! Choose your litter quickly - and become a Matched Sponsor. (Friends of Flicka is a Minnesota non-profit foundation dedicated to animals.)

For $100, become a Friend of Kittens and select a litter of cuties to sponsor and receive weekly photos for up to 8 weeks from their foster family and watch them grow toward cathood.

For $200, become a Special Friend of Kittens and select your furry team, receive weekly photos for up to  8 weeks and one visit at the foster family's convenience to ooh and awww and cuddle the little dears.

For $250, become a Special Friend of Homeless Moms and select, when posted, a pregnant mom in foster care. You'll receive 8 weeks of photos, including the newborns, one cuddle visit, and the chance to name the babies. (Mom cat would name them, but she'll be busy nursing.) Feline Rescue reserves the right to approve the names.

View our current litters available for sponsorship.  Each litter may have as many sponsors as possible. Everyone welcome. Once you've chosen a family and selected your Sponsorship level, click the "Donate" button on our Razoo page. Then, check the box "Dedicate My Donation To Someone", and write in the chosen family's name. We need to know to send you their pictures!

Team sponsorships: Can't quite do $100, $200, or $250? Get a friend to join you and each of you put in $50 to get one sponsorship - or 3 friends with each of you putting up $25. Team sponsorships must be purchased at the $100 minimum, but you may call yourself "Team Betty's Kids" or such, and provide all of your email addresses to receive the pictures.

All Friends of Kittens, Special Friends of Kittens, and Special Friends of Homeless Moms will be recognized on Feline Rescue's web page and/or in The Scoop unless you ask to remain anonymous.

Sponsorship does not include any preference for adoption of the sponsored kittens or other Feline Rescue cats. All sponsors seeking to adopt must follow the regular foster screening and approval processes.

For additional information or if you have any questions, please contact Feline Rescue at sponsorAlitter@events.felinerescue.org.

Andy: ISO guardian angels

This is Andy. Andy is about 12 weeks old, and he became a Feline Rescue "special needs kitty" this week.

A good Samaritan noticed Andy on the side of the road and stopped to pick him up and bring him to medical attention. You can't tell by the photos, but one of his back legs is badly mangled, we think from a run-in with another critter. Our expert orthopaedic consultant thinks his ankle (which looks like a knee on kitties) is too damaged to save, and the leg will have to be amputated. What you can see in the photo are Andy's front paws, curled as he makes biscuits in the air. Andy is a sweet, sweet boy, with a very plucky spirit and lots of love to dispense to his human helpers. He must have at least one good guardian angel who kept him safe from that critter who wanted to have him for lunch, and impulsed a random stranger to rescue him from the streets.
Now Andy is looking for a few more guardian angels. First, he could use some help with his veterinary bills. Would you be willing to sponsor part of Andy's surgical care? Please let Cathy know by calling 651.230.3263 and she will let you know how you can help.

Second, and most importantly, Andy needs a home! Do you have room in your home and heart for a very special little 3-legged cat? Sign up now!

For more information about Andy, to have any questions answered, or to start an adoption application, call Cathy at 651-230-3263

Give to the Max Day

Have you heard yet about GiveMN.org? Thanks to the generous sponsorship of many giants of Minnesota industry, this new site collects donations for Minnesota non-profits and picks up the tab for all processing fees. This means that every dollar you donate via giveMN.org goes directly to your designated charity.

The launch of the new e-giving website is being celebrated TODAY, Tuesday, November 17th, with Give to the Max Day. For these 24 hours only there are $500,000 of matching funds available, to be distributed proportionally along with all the donations collected today. Individual donations up to $2500 will participate in the match after all is tallied up.

And check this out - the minimum contribution is $10, and the three organizations with the highest total number of individuals making donations will receive an extra grant. Today, every little bit WILL count!

If you have been thinking about making a year-end contribution to Feline Rescue, today would be an excellent day and GiveMN.org would be an excellent way to make your dollars go even further. Feline Rescue is an All Volunteer, registered non-profit organization. Every dollar we raise goes toward the sheltering and care of our cats, many of whom you have read about on the pages of this blog, and many of whom have needed expensive medical services to return them to a happy, functional life.

If you happen to read this post after November 17th, don't worry, all you have missed is the opportunity for the matching funds. The links will still work, and you can donate any time through GiveMN.org

Sponsor Me: O'Henry

Oh, Henry!

O'Henry bears the scars of a tough life of neglect. But he's a sweet, gentle guy who just wants to put the past behind him and enjoy today.

O'Henry has been a familiar face at Feline Rescue for awhile now. Unfortunately, while he loves people, O'Henry definitely does not like other cats. And since there wasn't enough space at the shelter for him to have his own room, O'Henry ended up spending a little too much time in a kennel (and lots of time with his face in a food bowl).

Despite all the love O'Henry received from the volunteers at the shelter, he became bored and depressed and severely overweight. His health was at risk.

O'Henry is FIV positive. But with good clean living, a cat with FIV can live a long, healthy life—just like any other cat. O'Henry is still a young guy and plans to enjoy many more years of tummy rubs, soaking up the sun, and chasing down toy mice. That's why he needed to get his health back on track.

So O'Henry came to stay at my house for awhile, and we have enjoyed having him! At first, he wasn't too sure about the new canned foods that I wanted him to eat. Now O'Henry loves his new diet and his health and appearance have improved. He's down four pounds—from 21 to 17!

O'Henry is playful and agile again. His favorite toy is the cat dancer. And his little toy mice are never in the same place in the morning as they were at night.

O'Henry is so easy to please. He would be perfect for someone who just needs a pleasant companion. He's really more like a dog than a cat (but so much easier than a dog)! He doesn't ask for much more than to just be near you. He likes nothing better than when I sit down to work at the computer so he can just sit next to me and purr. And he's friendly with absolutely anyone who comes to visit.

O'Henry is also happy to spend time alone. Between snoozing on the couch and sleeping in the sun, he has no trouble filling his days.

O'Henry dreams of the day when he will finally have a home of his own—where he will have the run of the house and not have to share his people with any other cats. O'Henry has been through so much and deserves a comfortable home. Won't you give him the chance?

For more information about FIV, see:
www.bestfriends.org/theanimals/petcare/cats_fiv.cfm)

While O'Henry is waiting for his forever home, he is available for sponsorship. Donating to Feline Rescue's sponsorship program is a great way to support our mission. Sponsorships make wonderful gifts! Recipients receive a photo and biographical sketch of the cat. Download this form to sponsor O'Henry. To see other cats available for sponsorship, click here.

Sponsor Me: Sissy

Sissy truly enjoys the good things in life. Although her day is scheduled from dawn to dusk with napping, dozing, resting, slumbering, snoozing, getting in forty winks, taking a siesta, nodding off, drowsing off, and sleeping, she is sure to incorporate her feline friends into her schedule. Her activities require plenty of nourishment, so Sissy takes plenty of breaks for crunching kibble and lapping up canned cat food. One can only guess that Sissy must be close to exhaustion when she crashes into the nearest bed after her last meal of the day!

To tell the truth, Sissy is not always eating or sleeping. Because she is not particularly comfortable with humans, visitors are not likely to see Sissy out and about, unless she is surprised by their presence, in which instance she is likely to scurry across the floor to the most secure position apart from them. Sissy is most likely to be observed hunched down in her bed, making herself as small as possible, as she waits in a semi-petrified state for the strange humans to depart. Although Sissy is not a spa aficionado, she does have some human friends who pet her, brush her, and clip her nails to keep her looking and feeling her best. During quiet times at the shelter Sissy frequently sits at the door to her room, observing the roaming cats. In reality, she is waiting for the coast to be clear, so that she can chase the toy mouse in her room while maintaining her staid reputation. Her closest human friends know that on occasion, Sissy may be enticed to forget herself, and chase and attack the feather on the end of the wand! Shhh!

Sponsor Me: Miss Ellie

Miss Ellie came to Feline Rescue when her family could no longer care for her. She's been at the shelter a while now, but it's hard to understand why. Maybe it's because she's a black cat. For some reason, black cats are usually the last to get adopted.

But Miss Ellie is more than just another black cat: She's a sweet little thing with loads of personality. She loves to have fun and is quite a tease. She'll roll over on her back and beg you to play with her. In quieter moments, Miss Ellie likes to be picked up and petted and even to snuggle on volunteers' laps. She seems to do better in smaller crowds, so she would really settle down in a home without too many other cats around.

While she awaits her new family, Miss Ellie is available for sponsorship. Donating to Feline Rescue's sponsorship program is a great way to support our mission. Sponsorships also make wonderful gifts. Recipients receive a photo and biographical sketch of the cat. Download this form to sponsor Miss Ellie or one of her friends. Sponsor Me: Bobby

Bobby has many claims to fame: his long white coat, his beautiful eyes—one blue and one green, giant paws, his tail (or lack thereof). And don't forget about his outgoing personality.

Bobby is very playful and also appreciates quality lap time and petting. But he can be a little feisty and doesn't like to be handled too much.

As a young guy, Bobby was found wandering around Lake Street and was brought to Feline Rescue. While he has many friends among Feline Rescue volunteers and visitors, Bobby is taking his time to meet his match and find a home of his own. He's looking for a special person or two who are willing to give him a chance to be himself and also time to build a trusting relationship.

In the meantime, you can visit Bobby in Bobbyland (his very own room at Feline Rescue), where he enjoys sleeping in the sun, lounging in his easy chair, and chasing down those little furry mice. You can also sponsor Bobby for just $30.

Sponsor Me: Isaiah

Isaiah is frequently the foundation of a group of snuggling cats. Rachel and the sisters Daisy Mae and Buttercup frequently pile around Isaiah in a cat bed or cardboard box, as does Snickers, or Duke and Riley. Whichever cats are snuggled around Isaiah, he is very sensitive to and protective of their comfort. Human friends know that at the slightest sign of discomfort from a cat snuggled with Isaiah, he will warn the intruding human with a hiss or swat.

Although Isaiah tends to retreat when a human enters his room, he does enjoy human attention. On occasion, he seeks and relishes a thorough brushing. He also enjoys head petting and chin scratching. However, he may be satisfied simply with human companionship and daily interaction. So come say hello and meet the teddy bear of the shy cat room.

Isaiah still yearns for his forever home. He seeks a quiet gentle adult human or two who will respect his complex napping schedule. He also would much appreciate a view of outdoor life, whether traffic, birds and animals, people, the sky, or rays of sunlight. However, most important to Isaiah would be the company of at least one of his feline friends. To ease the transition to a new environment prospective adopters will need to establish a friendship with Isaiah prior to his adoption.

While Isaiah continues to await his special person, fans can sponsor him for just $30. Recipients of sponsorships receive a photo and biographical sketch.

Donating to Feline Rescue's sponsorship program is a great way to support our mission. Remember, sponsorships make wonderful gifts! Download this form to sponsor Isaiah and/or one of his feline friends. To see other cats available for sponsorship, click here.

Sponsor Me: Rachel

Rachel is a long-term resident of Feline Rescue who is available for sponsor. She was rescued several years ago with her brother Riley. She is a beautiful, medium-haired calico with glowing green eyes. Rachel and Riley grew up outside, where they learned to be wary of people. But at Feline Rescue she has grown to trust the volunteers and even to enjoy gentle human touch from those she knows the best.

Over the years, Rachel has become a bit of a finicky eater (as many older cats do). That's ok, because Feline Rescue volunteers love to wait on her with tempting treats of tasty canned food, tuna, and boiled chicken. As one of the older residents at the shelter, Rachel had earned the right to be spoiled!

Rachel also receives much comfort and companionship from the cats who share her room. She is often found on a high shelf, curled up in a small box with her friends Buttercup and Daisy Mae. She loves all of her feline friends.

Donating to Feline Rescue's sponsorship program is a great way to support our mission. Sponsorships are only $30, and they help us to ensure cats like Rachel will be able to live their lives happily at Feline Rescue by supporting the long term needs they may have. Sponsorships also make great gifts. Recipients of sponsorships receive a photo and biographical sketch of the kitty of their choice. Sponsor Me: Frazier

This handsome guy has been with Feline Rescue for several years. Frazier is the most outgoing of our shy room cats: He regularly greets his human friends upon entry to his room, and is very receptive to a friendly pat on the head or a good chin scratching. If you visit our shelter you may find him lounging in the sun or snuggling in a bed with his feline friends. Settle on the floor, and he might crawl onto your lap for a body massage! Frazier has a passion for canned cat food, and will go to any lengths to usurp treats and lick treat dishes clean. He plays the occasional interactive game with wand toys, especially those with feathers.

Frazier is often overlooked for adoption because he has resided at the shelter for so long. He was placed in a home at one time, but had difficulty adjusting to life in a new environment as an only cat. For this reason, Frazier would need to be adopted with one or two of his friends. Duke and Riley are among his closest buddies, but he could also be paired with most other cats currently in the shy room. There should be no other pets in the household. To ease the transition to a new environment prospective adopters will need to establish a friendship with Frazier prior to his adoption.

While Frazier continues to await his special person, fans of Frazier can sponsor him for just $30. Recipients of sponsorships receive a photo and biographical sketch.

Donating to Feline Rescue's sponsorship program is a great way to support our mission. Remember, sponsorships make wonderful gifts! Download this form to sponsor Fraizer and/or one of his feline friends. To see other cats available for sponsorship, click here.

Sponsor Me: Riley

At Feline Rescue, we have several cats available for sponsor. Long term shelter resident, Riley, is one of them. Riley is a gorgeous orange tabby with soulful eyes. He was rescued several years ago with his sister Rachel. Riley and Rachel were feral, and although they will allow some human contact, they're much happier curled up in a warm bed with their feline buddies. Riley is no longer a young cat, and he will live for the rest of his life in a cozy room with lots of sunlight, soft beds, good food,--and most importantly--his cat buddies that he loves the most.

Donating to Feline Rescue's sponsorship program is a great way to support our mission. Sponsorships are only $30, and they help us to ensure cats like Riley will be able to live their lives happily at Feline Rescue by supporting the long term needs they may have. Sponsorships also make great gifts, recipients of sponsorships receive a photo and biographical sketch of the kitty of their choice. Download this form to sponsor Riley and or one of his feline friends.

Just to prove how much Riley loves his cat buddies, here are some photos of him squishing his body into an already full cat bed. Isaiah and Duke were happily snoozing away in this bed, and Riley jumped up to join them. Duke and Isaiah didn't mind a bit when Riley jumped in and settled in on top of them. Too cute!
