Elmer!

We just had to share some photos of Elmer taken during his recent photo shoot with Kris of KrisKreativ Pet Photography. Elmer is quite the character. He was rescued through our Outreach Program and picked up FIV during his travels.

Meet Elmer and his FIV+ feline friends in the FIV+ room at the Feline Rescue Adoption Center

What is FIV?
FIV is an immunodeficiency virus that over time may leave a cat more susceptible to illness. But most FIV cats live normal, healthy lives with few or no health problems. FIV can't spread to other cats through casual contact like grooming, cuddling, or sharing food and litter boxes (it's transmitted primarily though deep bite wounds). FIV can't spread to people or dogs.

A new diet and a new home

Adison came to Feline Rescue with a chronically upset stomach that did not improve with traditional therapy of drugs or a "special" diet. She felt miserable and had a hard time keeping herself clean.

The folks at Woody's Pet Food Deli offered to foster Addy, and after just a couple of days on an all-meat diet, Addy's tummy troubles went away.  She loves her food... and no more messes!

Addy was lucky enough to find a home already with someone who will feed her the healthy food that keeps her feeling good!

If you have a cat with a chronically upset stomach, consider switching to a complete and balanced all-meat diet.  It could be just what the doctor ordered.

Connor and Patrick Together Forever

Yesterday those who've known Connor and Patrick received one of the best gifts ever.  The brothers were adopted! This is what wipes away all the sad tears of rescue and replaces them with happy tears.

Connor and Patrick have been at the Feline Rescue shelter as long as I've been volunteering and I, along with many other volunteers, always wondered why these sweet guys had not yet found a home.  Connor and Patrick came in to rescue March 2005 and after almost 8 years they are finally home.

The family that adopted the brothers also took home Tippy, another special boy abandoned at our shelter in a box.

Merry Christmas!

Charlotte and Amelia: Homes at Last!

Over two years ago, I took in a pregnant mom cat, Charlotte, from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue who soon had four kittens. Three of the four kittens were adopted within a few months, but no one chose Charlotte or Amelia. It was the longest I ever had had foster cats and the longer they stay, the harder it is to let them go. However, I could not continue fostering if I adopted them myself and I knew they deserved more attention in their own home.

CHARLOTTEThen I heard from one of my former Feline Rescue adopters (of my kitten Eloise) that she was looking for a cat for her mother. The two of them drove over and fell in love with Charlotte. Apparently, she made herself right at home:

UPDATE 1:
Charlotte and I are doing just fine. I think she likes me. She follows me everywhere and slept with me from the first night. K~ and I are both surprised. Right now she's sitting on the desk next to the computer. Anyway, shes doing just great and she says to say Hi to Amelia and Gilligan and the rest of the gang.

Thanks again,
D~UPDATE 2:
Charlotte's doing fine. Still sticking to me like glue...although I have noticed she's not quite as dependent as the first week or so. Still haven't introduced her to Eloise yet....maybe one of these days....... Poor Amelia. Hopefuly one of these days, she'll get her forever home and have different things to think about other than " Where has my Mom gone to?"

Have a good day ...... Charlotte sitting next to me and meowing. Must be saying Hello to you and the gang!!!!!

Bye....D~

Another couple months went by without a home for Amelia and I decided to give her a chance at the Feline Rescue Shelter where more people would see her. Feline Rescue has agreed to take in two cats from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue at the shelter to help them find homes, so when there was a spot to fill, I took Amelia there. I've never suffered so over a decision for a foster cat. She had been there a couple of weeks when I stopped to visit and learned that she might be getting adopted that day with another cat from the shelter named Gilligan. Well, I've had a cat named Gilligan for ten years, so I took that as a sign and spoke briefly with the adopters. Time passed and I was so anxious for an update that I contacted them and got this great news:
 AMELIAUPDATE:
I'm so glad to hear from you as we had such a short time to meet at the shelter. I hope you are well and enjoying your summer. I have loved having the summer off to bond with the kitties but am starting to gear up to go back to school.

I am happy to report that Amelia seems to be happy in her new home. My husband and I don't have kids or other pets so she and Gilligan are our only 'children'. We love them so much though it has been an interesting transition. Amelia is so much an alpha female, since she crossed the threshold, she has definitely been the boss. As a result, with Gilligan being a shy boy, we set up a screen door between the first and second levels of our house so they could sniff and view each other but have slow physical introduction. I so wish I had a photo of the night when Amelia decided she'd had enough and wanted to meet Gilligan so she climbed our modified screen door and made her way over!

GILLIGAN AND AMELIASince then, they have gotten to be fast friends and even snuggle and have taken to sleeping together, as well as playing, chasing and eating together. I'm a bit surprised but thrilled that they are getting along so well, so quickly. I've attached a few photos of her/them for you. Please know she's in good hands and that I'll be sure to send photos and updates about her.

FINALLY, happy endings for the whole family (and me!)

Steve is Home

Steve fka Hobo has found his forever home! His family sent an update and video after his first night home and we've also received a bunch of great photos of Steve loving his new home.

First Night with Hobo

I just thought that I would let you know that the first night went very well as far as I am concerned. When he got home we let him out of the carrier, he made a couple of laps around the place and then hid under the bed for an hour. After that he came out and sat by me on the couch and nuzzled up to me. He would lay next to me at night and then get up and wonder around then come back and repeat. This morning he woke me up by sitting on my chest and staring at me. He has used his litter box and like to sit on the table and look out the window. I could not be more happy with him and the work the you are doing.

Video of him coming out of his kennel.

I feel truly blessed to have Steve (Hobo) as my new friend, he has been awesome. He loves to sit and look out the window and watch the world around him, also loves to cuddle up and get love from me. He has been every thing that I was looking for in my first feline companion.

Here are some pictures that I have taken over the first week.

Snickers at Home

Snickers lived at Feline Rescue's adoption center with her feline friends for many years. But she adjusted quickly to living in a home. She especially loves the bird watching. And she's even starting to make new friends.

Update from "Karolyn"

It's been a few weeks since we stopped in to see if we could find a new addition to our family. And we surely did - it was really instant attraction to the young adult you had named "Karolyn". We renamed her "Betty" - and she certainly lives up to her name.

Betty is just a beautiful cat, very social, and so fun and loving. She is a joy! Her transition to her forever home has been very smooth; even our "Robert" enjoys having a little sister.

Yes, we are cat people, but I believe a lot of Betty's mental and physical health can be attributed to the great care she received while she was at the Feline Rescue Center. So thank you for all you do.

A Gracie Update

Gracie was recently adopted from our shelter and has been amazing her new family with her unique feline intelligence.

Dear Feline Rescue,

...we just wanted to let you know that Gracie has been having a blast living with us!

She took a while getting used to people, since she had been on the streets, but now she comes out even when we have company, abandoning her closet (which is her blanketed kingdom of seclusion) to purr and stretch in blatant invitation of attention. My poor chairs never feel unloved, as their carpeted scratching perfection entices Gracie way more than cat-nip rubbed scratching posts.

Gracie loves to have her belly rubbed, she'll flop down as soon as you start petting her, and absolutely loves being brushed. She's also rather fond of the bathroom--for some reason the bathtub is a source of endless wonderment, and she'll hop into the shower with me, always careful to stay in the steamy but dry portion as I stand immobilized, blocking the water from hitting her lest she become sad and soaked. She loves to curl up into the most adorable ball in my sink while I do my makeup, and our permanently dripping faucets end up bathing her. I think it's probably nice, since she can't always lick and groom her back, so I let the water and petting make up for that. The toilet flush always merits her running in to see the whirlpool--I hope she never figures out how to flush!

And my is Gracie smart! With laser pointers, she's amused for about 2 minutes before she just starts to stare at you, knowing that the little tube in your hand is what causes her anguish. She'll continue playing, but she makes sure you know that she knows what's up. She also is deadly vicious with toys--she knows to go straight for the string, the connection between the head of the beast and it's body of control.

Everyone who meets her loves her--and why wouldn't they? Gracie is absolutely the sweetest, most beautiful, most intelligent cat I've ever met. Thank you so much for taking care of her and allowing us to have a new friend.

Thanks again, and best wishes,
Alice & James & Gracie

Thank you Alica and James for giving Gracie a home!

Update from Patty Mae

Cute little Patty Mae recently joined another former Feline Rescue kitty. Here's an update from their adopter!

I adopted Patty Mae, now called Emma, about a month ago. Thought you
should know she is doing well. She has a lot of energy and is very
sweet. Emma and my other Feline Rescue adoptee, Panda, are not yet
best friends, though they tolerate each other and have now transitioned
to sleeping on my bed a couple of feet from each other.

Attached is a picture of Emma, after she fell asleep on my hand, and one
of Panda and Emma looking out the window together.

Neville - Toasty Warm in His New Home

Neville, fka Tigerhead, joined former Feline Rescue foster kitty Xander, fka Benjamin, in his home. He's obviously having fun with his new family.

We adopted Neville (f.k.a. Tigerhead) late last October, and I realized I haven't updated anyone on him! He is fitting in very well with our other kitties, and he is fantastically relaxed. He doesn't even care when my girlfriend puts her knitted goods on him. He likes to walk around with the scarf trailing behind him.

Tommy Tom and Butch Cassidy Update

Brothers Tommy Tom and Butch Cassidy are living the good life in their new home.  Their family sent some photos to share.

Hi,
I've attached some pic of them. I think Cassidy really enjoys eating and he needs to be on a diet. They were a little shy when they arrived home, but now they are doing well.

Best,
Helen

Figgy Found His Home

Great Figgy, now named Moscato, update from his new family!

Hello,

Just wanted to give you an update on Figgy. I adopted him in early December, and the second he got in the door I think he knew it was his new home. He immediately found his spot on the couch and has never really left. He is truly a joy to have around and I cannot imagine what I would do without him in my life. I just wanted to thank you for taking such great care of him at your rescue and helping make sure that he was the right cat for me. Figgy's new name is now Moscato, and he has adapted well to that now too, and has even learned a few tricks such as sit and sit pretty. He is such a joy and I am so appreciative for everything you do! Thanks again!

Apricot and Kiwi Update

Apricot and Kiwi, fka Snookie, are settling right in to their home. We received a great update and some gorgeous photos of these fun sisters who recently found a home together. They no longer have to share one big window at the shelter with a bunch of other kitties so it looks like they are really enjoying having their own views of the world.

Hello Feline Rescue,

I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how things are going with Apricot and Kiwi, who I adopted on 10/27.

Things are going really well. They've settled in just fine... We are really enjoying having them in our lives. I'm so happy that Kiwi spoke up and called me over when we were there to look at other cats. Had she not done that, I wouldn't have had the chance to fall in love with them.

Thank you so much.
