Happy Mother's Day for Mom & kittens from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue

A skinny dehydrated mother cat who had given birth to five kittens on April 1 was dropped off at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue (on the Red Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota) a few days later, after two of the kittens died. Karen Good (caregiver at RLRR) fed the hungry mama and kept the kittens alive with formula until the mama started to produce milk. The little family came down to the Twin Cities on the next transport to be fostered by Feline Rescue, Inc.

MAMA AND KITTENS AT RLRR
Mama is a pretty calico and her surviving kittens are all orange and white boys. I am their foster mom, so I got them set up in my bathroom/nursery.

MAMA SCOTCHEROO
THREE LITTLE MEN IN THE TUB
Kittens are safely in the tub lined with padding and fleece and a cozy teepee den. Mama is free to come and go from the tub when she needs a break to eat or use the litterbox.

It wasn't long before the tent bed was too small for the whole family, but the kittens kept using it for naps until they learned how to climb the tent bed and then they slept on top!

PINWHEEL SLEEPING FORMATION

CREEPING LAPS
Originally, I thought I would call the group the April Fools because of their birthdate and name them after famous red-headed comedians, but the kittens were just too yummy and sweet, so I named them after favorite golden treats with fun names.

TWINKIE
DREAMSICLE
SNICKERDOODLE
Mama now gets time out in the rest of the house and the kittens are approaching six weeks of age and are anxious for life outside the confines of the bathtub. The bathroom will be space enough for them for a few more weeks. They will be ready for adoption after spay/neuter when the kittens reach 12 weeks of age. Contact Feline Rescue foster adoption coordinator Joan at 651-705-6264 if you are interested in meeting them!

New friends looking for a home together

Last week, we told Pinocchio's story on facebook. She's been a stray the last couple of years. When she came inside, her teeth were so bad that they all had to be removed to provide relief from her pain. Recovery is going great, and Pinocchio is eating like a champ. This week, Pinocchio is looking for a home with her new best buddy Mouser!

Pinocchio and Mouser met in the recovery room at Feline Rescue. Mouser was rescued from animal control, where he was in danger of being euthanized because he was scared and considered not-adoptable. Far from it. Mouser turned out to be a sweet and mellow boy.

Pinocchio had her surgery on last Monday. On Tuesday, as Pinocchio was recovering, we moved Mouser's kennel across from hers so they could talk to each other. Mouser is a talker, and we had noticed that Pinocchio perked up and would start eating when she saw another cat. On Wednesday, we started leaving Mouser's kennel open so he could come closer to her. He would sit outside her kennel to keep her company.

On Thursday, Mouser was to be adopted and he seemed nervous. The nice family came to pick him up, and I have never seen such a nice and mellow cat throw such a fit. Mouser made it very clear that he did not want to go. Sometimes when the cats talk, we just have to listen. The family left without him, and Mouser calmed down and spent the rest of the night sitting with Pinocchio. They shared a snack in her kennel.

On Friday, Mouser and Pinocchio went quietly together to their new foster home. Their foster mom reports that while it took Mouser a grand total of five minutes to adjust to the place, Pinocchio was scared and will take longer to adjust to a new home. She can see that Mouser makes Pinocchio feel more secure. When Mouser sits by her, Pinocchio immediately relaxes and lets out cute little meows.

Pinocchio and Mouser are looking for a forever home together. To hear more, please call Molly at 651-295-3758 or email outreach@felinerescue.org.

Amaryllis and Babies

A week ago we were watching Amaryllis give birth to her four babies via her foster caregivers' kitten cam. Yesterday they had their first mini photo shoot.

Still Looking for Their Forever Homes

January is typically our busiest month for adoptions and this January blew all other Januarys out of the water. We had a record number of Foster adoptions. We are so happy that so many cats and kittens found their forever home! But we still have cats that would like to be adopted. Check out all these sweet guys and gals. Many of these cats have these things in common: Easy going. Mellow. Goofy. Sweet. You cannot go wrong with adopting any of these guys and gals.

Finnerick
Finnerick is a funny, goofy guy that likes to play. He gets along well with other cats.

Kramer
Easy going is definitely the word to describe Kramer. He's a big lug that loves to have his belly scratched (and what a belly it is!). He's mellow and lovable and adores playing uncle to other cats.
Mr. Short
Mr. Short is an old timer who likes to lay by the fire and snuggle on those cold days. If you're looking for a feet warmer and an easy going companion, Mr. Short is your guy.
Kiki and Tucks
Kiki and Tucks are shy kittens. They are busting out of that shy shell and really getting the hang of being fun-loving, sweet kittens.
Mississippi
Mississippi is an adventurer at heart. She loves to explore the nooks and crannies of her foster home. And once all the crannies have been investigated for the day, she likes to cuddle at night.
Gibbs
Gibbs is another easy going old timer who is content to lay by your feet.
Ward Cleaver
Ward Cleaver - Mellow is the word of the day but it does not do Ward justice. Ward is mellower than mellow. He loves to be petted.
June Cleaver
June likes hugs. No, June loves hugs. No, June craves hugs. She's a huggy girl. She likes to be petted. She loves the top of her head kissed. She could spend all day being carried around.

Pooh Bear
Pooh Bear is serious about head butts, catnip, being brushed & making biscuits. He's a happy guy, he's a mellow guy.

Mrs. Pearce
Mrs. Pearce is the last of her litter to be adopted. She's a little shy but then again, the shyer ones are more rewarding when they learn to love and trust you.

If you'd like to give one (or more) of these cats a forever home, please call Joan at 651-705-6264.

Blanket Donation

Lisa B. has been making blankets for our foster program for almost 4 years.  She's crafted well over 200 snugly fleece blankets.  Thank you Lisa!

Following are photos of some of Lisa's blankets.

Our kitties require the essentials (food, litter, medical care) but even better to be able to provide extras like soft blankets and toys. Thank you to all who have donated blankets and toys to make the lives of cats and kittens in our care more comfortable and enjoyable!
