Kitten Sitting

I'm taking care of Aurora and her family, while her foster family is out of town. They are so much fun to watch, I thought I'd take a video to share.

Felix is the tabby and he has more energy than I've ever seen in a kitten. Tut is the white fluffy boy who loves to snuggle in your arms but also joins in the fun. Gracie Ella is the only girl, beautiful just like her mom. Jude is the black and white boy who attempted to play with two toys at once.

This family will be available for adoption the beginning of July. If you are interested in learning more about them please call 651-705-6264.

Kittens Catching Some Zzzzzs

Today's blog is brought to you today by the letter Z.

Lily's three orange tabby kittens

The littlest of the tabby girls

Second little tabby girl just waking up

Little boy awake

Lily's beautiful daughter still napping

Lily and her family are headed to the vet today for their checkup.  The kittens will be 8 weeks this Sunday, one more month until they are ready to find their forever homes.  Her kittens are also very anxious to learn their names now that the Name That Litter fundraiser has ended.

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue

Feline Rescue supporters may be interested to learn more about Red Lake Rosie's Rescue since our foster and shelter programs are receiving and placing cats from that organization. Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization located on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota.

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue was created by Karen Good. She raised funds to build outdoor kennels on her reservation property and has arranged for spay/neuter/basic health care clinics several times a year. A metro support group has been formed in the Twin Cities and animals are transported from Red Lake to Twin Cities’ area rescue groups including Feline Rescue.

This video was created from photos taken at a clinic in March 2010 and includes an interview with Karen Good.

Xander!

Xander, fka Benjamin, was adopted a week ago. Since he'd been in foster care for a year after recovering from eye surgery and due to a special diet, we thought it might take some time to adjust to his new family.  But less then a week and he's already hanging with the other cats in the family and comfortable in his new home.

Xander's first steps in his home

We thought it was about time for another update! Xander has pretty much fully assimilated into our household already, as of several days ago. It only seemed to take him three or four days to get comfortable!

Xander chilling

He and the other cats all get along quite well, there's been nary a hiss for several days. He's explored most of the house, and we've moved his food and litter box into the main kitty room.

Xander and Lamby bond over catnip

We're in the process of transitioning all the kitties to the wet food, since we weren't really able to keep Xander away from the dry food. He's had one minor poop mishap, but not a big deal. We have him going in to the vet on Thursday to get caught up on shots and get his first checkup with us. That's about it, his transition was largely uneventful, which is for the best I'm sure.

Xander - laptime

So, that's all for now! I'm attaching some pictures Hillary took so you can see him in his new home.

We'll try to get one with all three cats in it - they hang out together sometimes, but won't cooperate with the camera.

Another Happy Ending, thank you Peter and Hillary!

Pierre (fka Little Man) and His New Family

Little Man, renamed Pierre to fit in seamlessly with his new family (Rousseau's Litter), moved to his new foster home today and he is already doing very well.

Pierre says "Hi" from his new foster home

From his foster mom:

He is doing great with the kittens and the mom cat is treating him like another one of her babies, I'm not sure if she even noticed he was new ;)

Top down: Berlios, Geniveve, Normandy, Antoinette, Pierre

For the first few hours he was following me constantly and if I left the room he would start crying now he is busy with his new brother and sisters and he isn't at all interested in my whereabouts! He has a great personality and beautiful markings (classic tabby swirls and he has spots on his tummy).

Thanks to two foster volunteers, one for nursing him back to good health and another for offering to let him join her foster cats!

More sweet photos of Pierre's new cat family.

The Cutest Kitten Ever!

And of course we say that about all of our kittens.
Little Man was found lost in some water that had filled a low lying area from all of the rain last week.  His rescuer looked around for quite awhile for more kittens or momma cat with no luck.  Little Man was transferred to a Feline Rescue foster home earlier this week to gain some weight and get healthy enough to join another litter of kittens in foster care.

Fun-loving Brothers

Claude and Pumpkin recently moved from a foster home to the Feline Rescue adoption center to meet new people and find their forever home. These one-year-old brothers are an entertaining pair!

Pumpkin is fluffy and sweet! He loves petting and will curl up with you on the couch to watch TV.

If there’s nothing good on TV, Claude and Pumpkin will entertain you. Wind them up and watch them go! They will chase anything that moves but especially peacock feathers and other things that fly through the air, allowing them to practice their high-jumping skills. Just like a cat, Claude always lands on his feet. Pumpkin… usually does (wind resistance from his long, luxurious hair makes it hard to be as graceful and aerodynamic a his sleek brother Claude).

Claude is short-haired and all grey. He looks a bit like a stuffed animal with his plush fur and big saucer eyes that are always wide open. Claude doesn’t have time to blink: he might miss something. Claude’s foster mom reports that he likes to be in the middle of the action and always followed her around the house.

Although he’s brave and curious, Claude is still not quite comfortable with one thing: petting. It’s too bad, because Claude would like to be petted. He watches how the other cats here enjoy it, so he knows that it must feel good. He sees his brother Pumpkin start to purr when someone scratches him on the head or rubs him on the belly. Claude just needs the right person to come along and earn his trust. Once he feels how good petting can be, he won’t want you to stop.

If your humdrum home life lacks excitement, consider bringing Claude and Pumpkin home. Earning Claude’s trust will be a rewarding challenge. And the way these guys play, you’re practically guaranteed to never be bored again!
To meet Claude and Pumpkin, stop by the Feline Rescue Adoption Center or call 651-642-5900, ext.3.

Brothers: Bootstrap Bill and Leopold

I adopted Leo and Boots (their names used to be Jade and Jazzy) from Feline Rescue Inc. almost 3 years ago. They just had their 3rd birthday last May 2. I bought them playtime cubes and they are nuts about it.

Bootstrap Bill is the black and white cat. He is a little trouble maker! He still love to steal things. He steals everything but the kitchen sink. He demands me to pet him for a half hour before he settle down at the bedtime. He melts my heart with his cuteness. He likes to sit in the middle of the living room and watch us. He is a curious boy.

Curious Bootstrap Bill

Leopold, the orange tabby, is so handsome and he knows it. He is also smart. I let him outside on  leash. He learn to not go outside until I put the leash on. He would jump on the top of tin garbage can by the window and wait patiently for me to get the leash. Leo also knows that meowing at me will not work. (I am deaf) He would tap on my shoulders, legs or butt. It took my other cats years before they figured out how to get my attention!

Handsome Leopold

They are very close brothers. They play together and sleep together. They can get wild sometimes, Boots love to run over us on the couch while Leo chase him. So far no injury but there were close ones! :)

Bootstrap Bill and Leopold with Tasha, Lisa's mom's cat

I am so lucky that they are mine.
Lisa

And Feline Rescue is lucky that the boys found such a wonderful home with Lisa!

Tunnel Play - Lily's Kittens

Lily's kittens are exploring and playing now that they are 5 weeks old.  Their favorite toy is a tunnel that crinkles as they walk in it.

Their foster caregiver still needs help naming the kittens.  If you think you have the perfect names for 3 orange tabby boys and a sweet girl, you can bid on-line to Name That Litter.

Update on Lulu and her babies

You met Lulu and her babies last month, and my how they've grown! Today is their eight-week birthday, which means they'll be ready to find their forever homes in a little over a month.

Here's a good shot of the entire family at their first check-up:

From left to right, there's Velcro (boy), Button (girl), Snap (boy), mama Lulu, Larrie (girl), and Zipper (boy). They're a loving, friendly, playful bunch. Their foster parents have decided to keep Lulu and Larrie, but the rest are doing their best to convince you to take them home after they're fixed.

That's Button (or Snap - it's tough to tell them apart) and Zipper, begging for some attention. But don't think for one second that they're starved for it. These lucky kitties are pampered beyond belief. They even had a baby shower! Quite a difference from the life they would have faced on the streets, if they would have even survived being born outside in March.

Now for the main event: kitties playing like there's no tomorrow. If this video doesn't inspire you to want to snatch up one of these cuties when they're up for adoption in June, I don't know what will.
