Tippie - One Eye Doesn't Stop the Playin'!

Tippie is a one year old cat in foster care. She has a big heart, extra toes, and only one eye.

Tippie lost one of her eyes earlier this year due to a virus she picked up during her time on the streets. She does not let this stop her! She is a dancing and playing machine. She loves to play with string. She loves to play with catnip toys. She loves to play with her ball in a track contraption. She loves to play! When she is not playing, she likes to help her foster humans cook dinner. She's an expert chef and even bigger expert in tasting.

Cat of the Week: Carmen Miranda

Carmen Miranda was a stray who was raising kittens outside in a woodpile. Her kittens have all found good homes, and now Carmen is looking for just the right place to settle down.


Carmen loves other cats! She would not like to be an only cat but would make a great companion for another cat. She has sweet, motherly instincts. Carmen also gets along well with dogs. And she loves people too!



Carmen is young and very petite. She's playful and gets along well with everyone here at Feline Rescue's Adoption Center. If you and your cat are looking for a friend, you really should come meet Carmen Miranda.

February 28th is National Spay Day

In honor of the 18th Annual National Spay Day, Minnesota Spay Neuter
Assistance Program (MN SNAP) has organized its 2nd annual Spay-a-thon. The MN SNAP mobile surgical van will be at Minneapolis Animal Care and Control (MACC) to perform surgeries for at least 150 animals. And area veterinarians will volunteer their time and services to perform spay/neuters at their offices on animals from the MN SNAP waiting list.

MN SNAP estimates that in Minnesota alone, over 90,000 companion animals a year are euthanized due primarily to overpopulation issues. The Spay-a-thon will help bring needed attention to this issue, facilitate the spay/neuter of many animals on MN SNAP’s waiting list, and help MN SNAP to continue doing the important work that they do every day. MN SNAP’s mission is “to end the suffering and death of homeless animals due to pet overpopulation by providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible spay and neuter services to Minnesota shelters, rescue organizations, and the companion animals of the low-income community.”

MN SNAP clinics will also be held at Feline Rescue this week on February 26th and March 2nd. Feline Rescue supports and greatly appreciates the good work of the folks at MN SNAP and is happy to provide a location for MN SNAP’s St. Paul clinics on a regular basis.

Cat of the Week: Emmett

Beautiful. Elegant. Sleek. Choosey. These are adjectives that describe Emmett, a young cat at the Feline Rescue Adoption Center.

Emmett really is beautiful. He has a lean, lithe body with exceptionally shiny fur. His legs are long, his tail is elegantly thin and expressive, his gray/green eyes are intelligent, and his face is unique.

Emmett loves to play with his toys. He likes eating and drinking out of ceramic bowls: no ordinary stainless steel for him. He loves sitting on his perches and window ledges to observe the antics of the cats in the adjoining room.

Although Emmett has tried sharing a room with other cat companions, he really doesn’t care to have his peace of mind disrupted. He thinks, perhaps it might be nice to hang out with one other nice kitty, but not lots.

Now Emmett has his own room here at the adoption center where he likes to entertain human visitors in style. He enjoys attention from most adults, but you will know when Emmett has picked you to be his special friend! He will rub against you. He will clamber into your lap, curl up, and drift off with his head in your hand. He has even been known to drape himself around the shoulders of volunteers he really, really favors as they clean his room.

Emmett knows his own mind. Emmett is definitely one of those cats who will choose the person with which he wants to go home. So far, he hasn’t found precisely the right person to love. Emmett’s standards are high, but he remains hopeful. Won’t you come see if you are the one?

Sibling Rivalry? Not with These Two!

Life isn't so scary when you have someone who's looking out for you, someone who makes sure the coast is clear, someone who defends you against scary noises, someone who is warm, comfy, and makes a great pillow. Life can be scary when you're only 8 inches high but not so scary when you have your brother by your side.

Loveable Samson plays bodyguard to his little sister Freckles. In this photo, you can't really tell who is who, where one cat ends and the other cat begins. This brother and sister truly enjoy each other's company.

Little Freckles can be a bit shy. She sends her brother out to check out the situation and when Samson gives the "all clear" signal, Freckles follows. She feels more comfortable once her brother has analyzed the surroundings for her. In fact, now that most of the scary unknown paths have been scouted out for her, she is getting more adventurous. She has a penchant for mischief, kitten mischief.

Brother and sister love to play. They're little purr machines, once their engines get revved up. And after a hard day of playing, they like to fall asleep together with their arms around each other.

Kittens Available for Adoption

We've taken in a number of orphaned/homeless kittens in the past couple months and some of them are are now ready to find their forever homes.

There's Freckles and Samson, Sophie and Stella, BabyCakes and Noel, and Bianca and Jerry.  They are all about 3-4 months old and of course very cute, sweet and playful.

Goldy's Home

Goldy was dumped at our shelter with a broken leg last fall. He spent time recovering in his foster home.

Following is the most recent update from his foster home shortly before he found his forever home:

He still walks and runs kind of wobbly sometimes (and looks like a slinky when he comes down the stairs, with his back legs getting ahead or coming around him!), but the people at [the clinic] say he will probably never really walk or run like a normal cat. But he seems happy and healthy otherwise!

And the update from his new family indicates he certainly is doing just fine and is very happy in his home.

Here is the news on Goldy:

We all love him! He is so tolerant with the kids, which is refreshing because our other kitty, Opal, is the opposite. No fights with Opal. A couple hisses the first day but other than that they have warmed up to each other nicely already. Not exactly snuggling together yet, but it seems like they are on their way to being best friends. In the picture where the two cats are pretty close they had been playing together and Goldy was purring the whole time. Yeah! Thanks again for caring for him, we really appreciate all of the time and energy you put into fostering.
