Gray Kittens Looking for Homes

Gray kitties are special since we usually don't have very many at our shelter or in foster care.  But this month we've got a bunch of gray babies looking for homes.  These 3-4 month old kittens would love to be in their forever homes to celebrate the New Year.  Please contact our foster adoption volunteer at 651-705-6264 for more information.

Connor and Patrick Together Forever

Yesterday those who've known Connor and Patrick received one of the best gifts ever.  The brothers were adopted! This is what wipes away all the sad tears of rescue and replaces them with happy tears.

Connor and Patrick have been at the Feline Rescue shelter as long as I've been volunteering and I, along with many other volunteers, always wondered why these sweet guys had not yet found a home.  Connor and Patrick came in to rescue March 2005 and after almost 8 years they are finally home.

The family that adopted the brothers also took home Tippy, another special boy abandoned at our shelter in a box.

Merry Christmas!

Working on finding themselves a home

Squeaky and Lola are the latest Feline Rescue cats to be employed at Woody's Pet Food Deli.  Lola works the counter...

while Squeaky keeps the dog beds warm.

They are both willing taste testers of the treats.

Squeaky and Lola get along great with each other. They are sweet with people and tolerant of dogs.  Both are just around a year old.  While the girls like working at the store, they would love to get a home for Christmas!

To meet Squeaky and Lola, stop by Woody's Pet Food Deli in St. Paul.

Reindeer Raja and Santa Simba

Brothers Raja and Simba, former Feline Rescue foster kittens, looking quite adorable for the holidays.

Reindeer Raja (FKA Coriander) and Santa Simba (FKA Sesame) want to wish all the wonderful people at Feline Rescue a happy holiday season!

The boys are doing really well, extremely mischievous (hence their nickname – The Hooligans) and seemingly getting bigger by the day. Thanks for the care you give all the cats!

Happy New Year, Sharon

And further explanation as to how Sharon got the photo:

This picture was taken after an extremely rambunctious night where they did very little sleeping and a lot of racing around. I thought I'd have about 10 seconds to get the picture before they woke up, but they were way too tired to care. They are really funny guys with very distinct personalities.

Thank you Sharon for giving the boys such a great home!

Diego - Elf in Training

Happy Holidays! from Feline Rescue foster kitten Diego.

Diego was rescued from an animal control facility with a broken leg.  After being in a cast for weeks, he is now cast free, continuing to heal and will be looking for a home shortly after the holidays.

In the meantime he is amusing his foster family, learning to get along with the resident kitties and having fun preparing for the holidays.

To learn more about adopting Diego or any of our other foster kittens, please call 651-705-6264.

The Nelson Girls

A letter from the Nelson girls, all former Feline Rescue foster kittens.

Dear Feline Rescue:

You might know us as Diamond and Pearl. However, we prefer to go by Rudi and Riley. Rudi - - because my new Forever Grandma is Ruth and my new Forever Mom is Diane. I wanted both of their names in my new name. So, at a family “meeting,” we all decided to change my sister’s name to Riley, - - mostly because it starts with an “R” just like mine does – and also because we all like that name.

Riley

We have our very own room with a night-light so we don’t get scared of the dark and also a radio on for us all the time. However, we have just now grown up enough to settle down (sometimes) and sleep with mom at night in a “big bed.” I (Rudi) sleep as close as I can to Mom, and Riley is “on-call” all night, keeping a close watch on the house, making sure everything is okay before settling down with Mom and me. Mom tells us that she has never had two kitties at a time before, but is SO VERY GLAD that she got us and that it is DOUBLE the pleasure to have my sister and me join the family.

Rudi

We just celebrated our first birthday on September 15. We got some new toys - - stayed up late and entertained Mom with our never-ending energy (as we do every night) and realized how thankful we are for Feline Rescue, our Foster Mom, Deb - -(who is now our “Aunt”) for giving us such a good start to life; and also for our new “Forever” home. Life is PURR-fect.

Ronni

Our lives took an unexpected turn when Mom brought home a new baby sister for us several weeks ago. Mom explained that she was one of the ten kitties left at Feline Rescue along with their mom, Lady Gray. We were amazed that our new step-sister, Ronni, (f/k/a “Raia”) had the same foster mom as we did !! So we are almost related !! Plus, she looks a lot like Rudi - - a true Tortie. However, we decided not to like this little four month old/four pound bundle of energy. So Mom and Foster Mom Deb decided to keep Ronni separated from us and go through a formal introduction “by the book” as Mom says. That must have worked because now we are together all the time.. Ronni still irritates us once in a while when she chases our tails and jumps on us, but we get her back by eating her kitten food until Mom takes it away. We have decided to accept her as our “real” sister after-all. At first she thought she was in charge, but we were here first and are bigger, so I think she understands her place now. Riley and I decided to be nice and “show her the ropes.” Life is TRIPLE fun now !!!!

Purrs,

Rudi and Riley Nelson and now Ronni Nelson (Sisters and BFF)

Thank you to your Mom and Grandma!  We love repeat adoptions.

Ronni's mom Lady Gray is looking for her forever home.  Please contact our foster adoption coordinator at 651-705-6264 if you would like to learn more about her.

Don't be bashful

Gracie and Bashful are a sister and brother who were born outside in June. A kind neighbor has been feeding the kittens and their mother and has already made arrangements for them all to be spayed and neutered. Now that it's cold, we would love to help her find these kids a real home too. You can see that they are loved and well fed.  These friendly kitties would like to be warm too. If you can help find these kitties a home, don't be shy about letting us know.  Contact outreach@felinerescue.org.

Baxter & Willy

Autumn (now Baxter) the very tiny lonely-only kitten from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and his Feline Rescue lonely-only buddy Willy are off bottlefeeding at last and have moved to a new foster home. They are much loved and Willy apparently still won't stand still for a photo -- s/he's always a blur...

AUTUMN/BAXTER

UPDATES FROM NEW FOSTER MOM
NOV. 29, 2012:
Baxter continues to do fantastic. He has a hard time deciding between his two favorite things, cuddle or eat? Cuddle or eat? We solve that by taking turns. He eats for a few seconds, gets distracted, runs to get cuddles, and then I put him back in front of the food dish. This is sure to cause some major issues when he is older- we will deal with the therapy later.

Willy simply will not sit still. He is so happy when it’s play time, he runs CRAZY all over my blocked off living/dining room, chasing his tail, chasing my dog, chasing Baxter. It makes his life easier to wait until Baxter is not eating to come and get snacks. Bax will sit in the food dish, scoop the food to himself with his teeny paws, and then growl at Willy.

WILLY

Willy has NO time for cuddles. He is at the “GEEZ MOM NO!” stage right now, and struggles when he is picked up. This is what we at Camp Leaf refer to as “Tough Love” as in Tough, Kid. You are GOING to get love. He will suffer about three licks when Boris (the resident cat) is trying to clean him. Baxter on the other hand LOVES uncle Boris, and will sit still happily. I am keeping a watchful eye, because not only is Baxter tiny, he also smells like delicious kitten food (because he crawls in it). I don’t think Boris is cleaning him out of love. He tastes like chicken.

DEC. 5, 2012:
Oh geez. Oh geez oh geez.

Willy is great, 2 lb. 5 OZ. Also Willy is a girl (explains a LOT) I forgot to ask the Vet yesterday (they went yesterday) to sex her for sure, but she appears to have little girl parts and not boy parts. We held up butts for comparison. High culture at our house.

BAXTER

Oh Baxter. Sigh. Baxter has a heart murmur. It’s is serious enough that he is being referred to get an ultrasound so we know what we are dealing with. Dr. Dan heard it yesterday. It is probably not the type that goes away, given his age. He said that is probably the reason Bax is so tiny, and he IS tiny for his age. I called Cathy, and she is making a referral for an expert to do the ultrasound. She said she will set it up for next week. He weighed 1 pound, 6.5 OZ. so he is still gaining, and he eats all the food I can stuff in him.

Bax is doing really well. We decided not to tell him he has a heart condition. He is pretty fearless for one so tiny, and he will investigate the whole living room during playtime. He bops my dog on the nose, and rubs against all the big cats, they LOVE him.

Willy is a bit more persnickety (girl cat). She is now clipped of her evil cat talons of doom. Front and back. My neck looks like I’ve been tortured. She was actually really good about the clipping, too. Baxter, not so much. I had to wait until he was asleep and ambush him.

Thank god for no kill shelters. My husband already threatened to chain himself to something if anyone talks about euthanasia (unless it’s a pain and suffering issue).

Casper!

Casper or Cas as his family likes to call him has found his home.  You may remember Casper came into our care very sick and needed a lot of medical care.  He continues to grow healthier but it may take more time for him to overcome his persistent runny nose and watery eyes. Fortunately his family understands his needs and just being able to settle in his forever home will hopefully give him a boost.

We are just so excited to see and hear that this special boy is already doing so well in his home.

First off, Cas is settling in to his new home very well. It didn't take long for him to want to explore the rest of the house, so we didn't force him to stay in the office once he seemed comfortable. Taiko is suspicious of him, and there is some hissing and grumbling from his end, but he isn't otherwise very aggressive toward Cas. Cas, on his part, is completely unconcerned by Taiko's posturing. I think once Taiko realizes that Cas isn't a threat, and isn't going to give in to his nonsense, he'll get over it.

Last night, I slept on the floor of the office to keep him company, and he spent at least part of the night curled up on my pillow, purring by my head. He's such a sweet little guy, and we're so happy to have him as part of our family.

Thank you to Casper's family for giving his story another happy beginning.

What your dog wants for Christmas

Does your dog need a friend?  If you can't handle adopting another dog, check out Tori instead!

Tori is a beautiful, fluffy tortoiseshell.  While she gets along OK with other cats, Tori seems to prefer dogs.  And she loves people!  Tori lived for a while with an American Eskimo dog, and the two were great friends. Sadly, her family had to give Tori up for financial reasons.  She is just 1-2 years old.

Now Tori is looking for a new home.  Could yours be the one?  Whether you have a dog or not, Tori would make make a fun addition to the family.  She loves to be petted and to play.  Tori also loves to bird watch, so windows with a view are a must.

In the meantime, Tori is keeping an eye on the treat inventory at Woody's Pet Food Deli in St. Paul.   You can meet her there.  For more information or to meet Toriemail or call 651-295-3758.

BabyCakes Today

From a malnourished, young kitten pulled from an animal control facility just a little over a year ago to a gorgeous kitty today, Bella fka BabyCakes certainly lives up to her name. She is a beautiful, sweet girl.

BabyCakes's story:
I had gone to an animal control facility to pull some kitties that were urgent as the facility was overcrowded and cats and kittens were going to be euthanized. As I was filling out the paperwork at the front desk the animal control officer behind the desk asked if she could show me something. I said sure and had no idea what she meant. She reached below the desk and pulled out BabyCakes. So tiny and thin, just a ball of fluff. BabyCakes and her siblings had been found and brought to animal control. Her siblings passed away soon upon arriving and the animal control officer had been desperately trying to keep BabyCakes alive but she was so little she needed to be bottle fed every 3-4 hours.

A couple months before I got BabyCakes we had also pulled a momma cat (Alani) and 3 babies (Cookie, CupCake and Danish) from the same animal control facility so once BabyCakes seemed healthy and stable I started to introduce her to that family. The kittens were much bigger and momma cat was not having any of it at first but eventually she let BabyCakes nurse which was so wonderful. BabyCakes LOVED being able to nurse and so did I as it meant I wouldn't have to get up in the middle of the night to feed her. She flourished and quickly found a loving home with another kitten also adopted from Feline Rescue.

Bella's fka BabyCakes most recent update from her family:
I just wanted to give you an update on Bella (aka Babycakes). I've attached some photos and, as you can see, she has grown into a beautiful little girl! She still loves playing with her brother, Oliver (also adopted from Feline Rescue). They are thick as thieves: they often run from one end of the house to the other, play with their new toys (we rotate so they don't get bored), and then end up in a heap of tuckered out fur on our bed or in some sunny spot in the house.

Bella rarely meows, but often makes an adorable chirping sound in her throat whenever she's feeling playful. She is the most curious of our three cats and likes to follow close behind us from room to room, no matter what we happen to be doing. She is so healthy and happy in her forever home and we owe that to Feline Rescue and all of the fabulous work that you do.
